No SRO At 1470 W Carmen

Many of you may remember that a SRO was planned for 1470 W. Carmen and was to be run by Heartland Alliance. According to a reader who has contacted the alderman's office, that deal has allegedly fallen through and the lot is going to be zoned for a possible condo development. No other details at this time.

  1. Of course this wasn't turned into an SRO - Helen lives 2 blocks east at 1248 W. Carmen. Being NIMBY - she would have never allowed this, although if it were proposed around Broadway and Wilson, far from her home, that would be a different story...

  2. Offcourse Blame Helen for everything!

  3. Who cares why it didn't happen?

The last thing this area needs is another SRO.

  4. Any lack of development in this Ward is her fault. Who are we kidding? There is no other reason for the blatant halt in development from Broadway south to Irving and north to Leland. Wake up. Every ward around this has developed over the past decade, except for Helen's. Why the woman can't understand that you can have development, retail, etc... and diversity and housing for all incomes is beyond me.

  5. Maybe some of it's her fault but there are a lot of other factors too so don't be so quick to blame her.

I don't support her but also I don't think it's fair to always pin the blame on her with out fully knowing the facts.

Have many people tried to develop that area of her ward?

How many people have come to her and said here is what I propose and she said no.

Land owners have to be willing to sell too.

  7. Things like this must be the reason why city liquor ordinances forbid all liquor establishments (gay or straight or lesbian bi or transgendered) from having hotel entrances from their properties.

  8. Man's Country is not a private club. Private clubs cannot advertise events that are open to the public. Man's Country has ads for its strip club every week in the gay newspapers. Plus, Man's Country does not have a tax exempt status indicative of a private club per IRS website that we tax attorney's use all the time.

It is a plain old liquor licensed establishment with a side area like every other strip bar on Halsted.

  9. For the record Man's Country does not have a liquor license.

  10. What are you saying Mans Country should be closed? If so, be a man or woman and attach your name to your statements. Otherwise you're just a little asshole spreading trouble for a good businessman the alderman and mayor fully support. This is why blogs are dangerous. Cowards can come on and spew all sorts of shit about good people without consequences. Be responsible UU. Unless you've or they've got proof of this, delete it.

  11. Folks, this post was started to discuss the proposed SRO that has apparently been cancelled for that site. Let's keep on topic.

  13. Anonymous meant to require everyone to put their names on their postings except for him/her.

  14. Getting back to the SRO, does anyone know where Heartland plans to open a facility now? Presumably they will still be needing a facility of this type because the demand is there and the funding is specific toward persons needing these services.

  15. Do we believe everything the Alderman's office tell's us about development in this ward? Has this been confirmed by Heartland or the City Zoning Dept? Sorry, after 9 years of Wilson Yard BS I can't trust any development news coming out of Shiller's office.

  16. If that's all you got is a year and a half old crime, I'd say Man's Country is a steller business. A good business man that Chuck is.

  17. To the "anonymous" who continues bringing up random "Man's Country" tidbits-
Let's save that for a post dealing with that establishment. This post will stay on topic. Thanks for your cooperation. May we remind you that you are also free to start up your own blog and discuss whatever you want, whenever you want. Just a thought.

  18. Agreed. Get the bee out of your bonnet and get back on topic of SRO's and zoning.

  21. This building has been an issue for a long time when it was Carmen Manor. The residents were always milling around, and several of them were routinely found standing in a daze in the middle of Clark street with traffic zooming around them. I worked for Jack Jones (of Atlantique) for a while and they were always calling Carmen Manor to have them come rescue their residents from an impending doom.

So is it still Carmen manor or is there an update on what's happening there?
