Low Rider

A reader writes in:
"You know there are state laws governing load limits and the 23rd police district never enforces them. When our district get its share of the special grants from the state for local enforcement, they spend the resources on roadside checks for licenses and insurance cards, usually out in the park where it does our community little good."

  1. I always found it interesting that someone could get a ticket for not having a city sticker, yet these trucks could easily drop their load and kill someone goes scott free. Does the city look the other way because they are doing a service by taking away junk?

  2. I agree...I got a ticket for a broken tail light. At least if my tail light falls off no one dies.

  3. That's a good point I never thought about that but I will tell you I don't like seeing them parked on the Street.

  6. I think the junk trunks are kinda fun. We have betting pool in our building regarding how long something will last in the alley before a junker comes by. The record is 2 minutes, but nothing lasts until the next day. They keep a lot of stuff from the landfill!

  7. I've been thinking that the TIF should pay for a new Uptown marketing poster modeled after the "Doors of Dublin" travel poster. We could feature the "Junk Trucks of Uptown".

  8. Do you allow negative times in your pool for when they pull siding off of homes and refrigerators off of back porches before home owners intend to give up ownership?

  9. "The Junk Trucks of Uptown" comment is classic.

I shall have to steal it and make it my own.

  10. Not only does their junk break loose all over the city, but the particular truck that parks near Beacon and Wilson has two losers STUMBLE OUT OF THEIR TRUCK after a long night of junk collecting ... ragingly drunk. As to leave no doubt as to what they do all night, they traditionally dump their 15 - 24 empty Carona bottles on someones lawn EVERY morning.
No, that poses no danger to my community whatsoever.

  11. Irish Pirate, you need not steal my Junk Trucks of Uptown concept. I have gifted to the world by posting it to the public domain. Therefore, is is now ours to share. Sleep peacefully, my son, for thou do'st not sin.

However, take care not to infringe on the copyright of the "Social Services of Chicago" poster that (for real) was displayed on the bus shelter across from the Margate dog park this summer.
