Bye, Bye Aldi

Nearly six months after the new Aldi store on Broadway opened, the old one bites the dust.

Who's counting down the days until Target opens?

  1. This makes me kind of sad and nostalgic! :(

  2. I'm excited to see some forward progress but even more nervous about the uncertainty of what might go in to replace it (and more importantly, what might not).

  5. As always great communication from our leader. Would have been nice to know this was going to happen. Dust for near by homes and saftey. Yes, the great communicator Shiller

  6. When I first read the caption about "Bye, Bye, Aldi", my first thought was the caption must be referring to the new Aldi, which was perhaps closing down due to lack of business.

  7. Stop talking about Target! It's not coming. Period!

My thoughts exactly. Shows you the state of our neighborhood when that's the first thing we think of reading that.

  9. Target has no reason to make a commitment on whether or not it is coming. That's the whole problem with the way this TIF was set up and that's why we're not hearing a confirmation from Target. In all their other future locations, they make an announcement with huge signs on the property way before it gets built. Not in the Wilson Yard. That's not an oversight on Target's part. We know that and Shiller & Holsten know that. They are just keeping quiet.

It looks worse for Target right now because sales are flat all over the U.S., so the motivation to build a new store is dwindling with every day that goes by. Target will want to see some signs of sales going up before they make a commitment and there's no hurry right now. With Moore promising to take the Big Box ordiance before City Council again, why would Target want to make a commitment anyway?

  10. My question is why is there no recourse when politicians lies?

I won't have a job if I did things like these crooks in Chicago that are called Alderman.

  12. Hopefully Peter and Helen know how to build a Target better than they can spell... "truly" has no "e" in it...
