  4. silence = death - helen - shame
Where is Jon Trott of the Jesus People who run the cornerstone drug gallery - where is the outrage, a poor fisherman is killed, a homeless man attacked on a bus bench, another homeless man killed in front of a shelter - when will it stop? Never unless we take back the streets and take back our neighborhood from shiller and daley - shame on you helen, shame on the jesus people and shame on mayor daley -

  5. You mean the Jon Trott who spoke at the Anti-crime rally in August, but who never goes to any CAPS meetings except the CAPS event held by Shiller weeks before the election? Is that the Jon Trott you mean?

  7. Was this shooting gang related? Do we have any idea of the background? Also, I have not been able to find any information on the Wilson/Hazel shooting. Can someone provide a link or more information.

  9. As you mentioned, this is a matter for the police. However, our Chief of Staff, Denice Davis, has been walking through the ward letting the homeless people know what is happening. She hopes that to get them to stay aware and hopefully even to take shelter. If you have specific questions, you may contact the neighborhood liaison of your police district. If you would like to send me your address, I would be happy to send you that telephone number. from an e-mail sent by the Alderman's office to a constituent

When an alderman believes addressing crime is a neighborhood’s way of discriminating against poor people, there really isn’t much we can do to expect her involvement. Good God, she even posts research articles that refute the Broken Windows theory, which led to the formation of CAPS in Chicago. We know her attitude about CAPS because she removed all funding used to notify people of their upcoming CAPS meeting and then publicly complains about the lack of attendance.

Should Ald. Shiller ever allow herself to get past her preconceived notions about poor people and realize that perhaps no one from any economic background wants crime in their neighborhood, she will act accordingly. Her ability to work with the police, the businesses, the schools, the places of worship, the social services, and the residents to address some of the root causes of crime does not exist. For now, we’re categorized as “bad apples” and simply dismissed.

Until then, we must work around her.

  10. I would prefer it if you went back to the policy of making people register before they post. There's just too damn many people named "anonymous" around here!

  11. Including you, Anonymous.
Once again, all you have to do is click "other" and you can make up any name you want WITHOUT registering.

  12. Shooting was domestic related. The poooolice have a suspect and are currently looking for him.

  13. That's my whole point, Uptown Updater. Nobody bothers to click 'Other', or they don't realize it's possible, so we end up with 10 different anonymous posters trying to have a conversation. You might get more 'traffic' this way, but you definitely don't improve the quality of discussion--you just make it hard to follow.

  14. Another shooting. Another homicide.

Check the papers. Someone's targeting homeless people in Uptown.

  15. Or, it could be two random shootings, like the police and the newspapers say.

The poor man sleeping on the bench. So much for the notion that it's better for the homeless to sleep outside than to go to a shelter.

  16. We need to re-evaluate the system that does not create incentives for homeless people to stabilize their lives. There's something wrong when some of the homeless spend years on the streets.

I plan on writing a letter to the Dept. of Housing, asking them to explore this further. Giving people a meal and a place to shower is not providing them with needed help. Other cities are doing a much better job of addressing the problems associated with chronic homelessness, and much of that is creating better incentives for the homeless to stabilize their lives.

  17. Does anyone have any idea if there is a link between the killings? They seem all to be poor/homeless but also random. I attend Truman College and probably will transfer, this is all too scary.

  18. The link hahaha Murders happen all the time all over the city. its a big city and its going to happen.{But not in OUR neighborhood!!}
It would be nice if Helen actually did something productive with her power but we all know how much will get done. As far as the killings in uptown no, I don't think they are related. Homeless people have to have their own world so to speak. Things happen that "normal" people dont understand. I think that its kinda stupid. but most people think of homeless people as smelly stinky old people who have out of control kids and dont care if they abuse the govermnent's LINK card or Medical benefits and ect. But If you bothered to talk to some of the residents in the Sylvia Center And cornerstone Community Center you might be suprised to find out that some of these kids will get scholarships to colleges. some of the parents have "Degrees" I will admit they need help in those Shelters but if they were not there..... They would MOST definitly be killing to survive. Now, back to the ridiculous crime at CCO/Sylvia Center......

  19. James Lane got into an argument with a lady who also resides on the 4th floor of the Sylvia Center Building. Apparently He was Drunk that night he came in and the Staff Kicked him out/told him to leave. But before that he called the lady {Reports say "tricia"} a B**** as well as other names and to stay out of the argument he was having with his wife. Apparently Tricia made a phone call after this. Fast forwarding to James getting kicked out.... Ten minutes later a guy... presumeably the person on the other end of that phone call made earlier by "tricia" Shot James 4 times at least once in the head {according to reports his brains lay splatter on the ground...literally} Reportedly "Tricia" went down to make sure it was "done" after the shooting then went to the victims' wife and said something to her about her {tricia} involvement. Police since have reportedly charged this woman with MURDER 1. I have not heard anything as of the whereabouts of the shooter but police are reportedly have good leads on how to find him as of this report on the 14th of september. Sorry it took so long to post this I've been busy trying not to be homeless=)
