NORTH SIDE - A 35-year-old woman sitting in a North Side park with her friends was shot and wounded in a gang-related, drive-by shooting Wednesday night, Chicago police said. The woman, whom police declined to identify, was talking with a group of female friends at the north end of Clarendon Park about 9:40 p.m. when she heard a loud noise and was shot in the hip, police said. The woman, who lives across the street from the park, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center to be treated for the wound and was in stable condition Thursday morning.
Capt. Bill Wallace said it does not appear the victim was targeted. The vehicle, described by witnesses as a 1990s, black Oldsmobile Cutlass, sped off southbound on Clarendon, he said.

We look forward to hearing from the Alderman's office in regards to what they plan to do to combat this and other recent gang-related shootings. If you'd like to know first-hand what is being done to stop this, give the 46th Ward office a call. Tell them "Uptown Update" sent you.
There was also another gang related shooting on the corner of belle plaine and clarendon at about 12:40am on Saturday, August 4th. I was walking my dog a few feet away when it happened. A gunman in a van shot three times at a young guy who was running south on clarendon. All this recent gang activity is alarming in an up-and-coming neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteThis is getting ridiculous. The cops aren't doing their jobs. The small number of gang members in Uptown should be easy to get under control, but the cops only swing into action immediately after something bad happens. I don't give a shit what our alderman says, the police need to clean this area up.
ReplyDeleteuptownr - I can tell you without a doubt the cops are doing their jobs. But, it takes more than the cops "cleaning up" to get this problem taken care of. We all need to call in tips to 911, attend CAPS meetings, get to know our neighbors, and keep the neighborhood clean. Hope to see everyone at the national night out this week!
ReplyDeleteThe Green Mill- gangsters hung out there. Gangs have been around for some time in Chicago, before we were born. Cops, CAPS, cleanliness?
