If It Doesn't Say "Association," It's Not Sheridan Park Neighbors

We've noticed there has been some confusion among residents of Sheridan Park. There are currently two Facebook pages bearing the name Sheridan Park Neighbors, but only one true Sheridan Park Neighbors Association.

If the Facebook page you are following does not display the logo above, you are following the personal, self-promoting Facebook page of one resident cleverly disguised as a community group.

His thoughts do not represent those of the actual Sheridan Park Neighbors Association, which is comprised of hard-working Sheridan Park residents who have organized some amazing events and work to unite the neighborhood.

Spread the word and remember, if it doesn't say "association," it isn't Sheridan Park Neighbors Association, which is now recognized as a nonprofit organization.

  1. Oh my. That other page seems a little bitter.

  2. Um, Sheridan Park Neighbors has been in existence at least 3 or 4 years. The "association" was only incorporated this past summer. Just an FYI.

  3. The Sheridan Park Neighbors Association goes back to 1987. The organization was REINCORPORATED after years of inactivity this past summer. Just an FYI.

  4. I'm speaking for myself here, but as an active member of SPNA and chair of the community engagement committee, I have to re-iterate what Eric has said: Jeff's page has been up for a long time before the current iteration of SPNA in the last year. It's hardly "self-promoting." If we're trying to foster community and inclusion, it doesn't seem fair to lambaste this Facebook page, which from what I can tell has an engaged following of people who care about the neighborhood. I'm all for clarity on which Facebook page is which, but the tone of this "article" is unnecessarily combative.

    1. I hear what you're saying, Megan, but I must disagree with you. Looking through the recent posts on the SPN page, they're almost solely focused on either A) bashing the alderman and B) promoting the owner's personal artwork and what he believes is his personal brand. There is nothing "community" about it. Having two active pages confuses people, and could actually decrease community engagement, as residents associate SPNA with a page promotes a political agenda and one person's business. My understanding is that the reason for this post came from a few residents who were confused about why a community group was posting overtly political attacks.

    2. Additionally, the owner of the unofficial page has continually used his page as a bully pulpit to threaten residents he disagrees with - posting their personal information online, threatening violence, and even physically assaulting fellow residents. This behavior is unacceptable, and should not be tolerated or encouraged in our community.

    3. I can't speak to the harassment and I'm not here to defend it, but there is plenty "community" about holding our elected officials accountable and standing up for our most vulnerable. I'm not sure that we should reduce basic human decency to a political agenda.

  5. If Littleton, and I think we can mention his name here since it's now public record, wants to have a Sheridan Park Neighbors page to highlight his Van Gogh quality art that's annoying, but ok.

If he wants to show up at nearly every community meeting and disrupt it that's annoying, but ok.

What isn't ok is battery on a 70 yr old man. Anyone who's encountered Littleton over the years could guess that his mental state was worsening.

The atmosphere over the last few years that the Uprising folks have created with the protests hasn't helped. Now they have a right to protest as long as they keep it peaceful, but they also have a moral obligation to not directly encourage the mania of the self proclaimed savior of Uptown.

I happen to believe that their tactics are counterproductive to their cause, but again as long as it's peaceful it's their right to be stupid. If they were as good as they claim they are they'd be as concerned about the mental state of one of their more prominent supporters as they are about being seen on the teevee.

    1. Oh snap! Finally, getting some traction and hard evidence of how divisive he has been to the area for several years. I wish I could say I'm surprised by this crime.
