Breaking Ground After 45 Years Of Lying Vacant

Construction work has begun on a new 33-unit, four-story building with ground floor retail at Sheridan and Agatite. It's the first time since the early 1970s that anything has happened in the two adjoining vacant lots. We are glad to see them returning to a useful purpose after nearly half a century of lying fallow.

  1. Curious what was on the site that was demolished in the 1970s (and why it remained vacant for decades; was it more than urban decay, etc.)?

    1. ....Here ya' go. ....See pic here: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-csYP7JHBnl8/TW3VEaFRHwI/AAAAAAAAH7g/LmXY-xWB-C0/s400/sheridan-agatite-2.jpg

....The picture above, taken in 1936, is the view looking west towards the T type intersection where Agatite meets Sheridan. ....But do not know why, or when those buildings pictured were removed. ....Nor why that property has remained a vacant lot for so long.

    2. I have a vague memory of there being a legal easement between the two properties that made a sale difficult. But I don't recall any of the details, if I ever knew them. Apparently it's been solved, whatever it was.
