Uptown Returns to Open House Chicago Weekend

Uptown will be part of "Open House Chicago" again this year, the weekend when venues all over the city are open to the public. The slogan is "200 COOL PLACES. 48 HOURS. GO. IT'S FREE." If you're a history and architecture buff (we are), it's a red-letter weekend. It takes place October 15-16, and if you can, enjoy it! It allows you to peek behind the scenes where you don't normally get to go.

Here in Uptown, the featured sites are:
  • Garfield-Clarendon Model Railroad Club, in the Clarendon Park Fieldhouse (Clarendon and Sunnyside), Saturday and Sunday, 10am-4pm. Site details are here.
  • Preston Bradley Center (The Peoples Church), 941 West Lawrence, 9am-5pm on Saturday and 1pm-5pm on Sunday. Site details are here.
  • ICA GreenRise, 4750 North Sheridan, 9am-5pm on Saturday and 1pm-5pm on Sunday. Site details are here.
  • Bridgeview Bank (Sheridan Trust & Savings, Uptown National Bank), 4753 North Broadway, 9am-4pm on Saturday, 10am-2pm on Sunday. Site details are here. That's the ceiling of the original bank's lobby above.
  • Buddhist Temple of Chicago, 1151 West Leland, 9am-noon & 3pm-5pm on Saturday and 1pm-5pm on Sunday. Site details are here.
Uptown is paired with Ravenswood, so these are included as well:
  • The Airstream, (1807 West Sunnyside), Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm. Site details are here.
  • All Saints' Episcopal Church, (4550 North Hermitage), 9am-5pm on Saturday and 12:30pm-5pm on Sunday. Site details are here.
The website for Open House Chicago is here. Featured communities this year are Bridgeport/Back of the Yards, Bronzeville, Downtown, Edgewater, Englewood, Evanston, Garfield Park/North Lawndale, Gold Coast/Near North Side, Hyde Park, Jefferson Park/Portage Park, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Near West Side, Oak Park, South Loop/Prairie Avenue, Rogers Park, South Shore, Ukrainian Village, West Town, and (best for last!)
