Closer ... Closer ...

We have an Opening Date for the Lawrence/ Ravenswood Mariano's -- April 8th. According to a rep from their Real Estate Division, "our" Mariano's -- the one at Sheridan and Foster -- will open sometime in April, but there's no firm date set yet.

A reminder that the Foster Mariano's Job Fair is this Saturday, March 8th.  If you are applying, dress professionally and bring a resume and a photo ID.

  1. Please, please, please!! I have had no groceries since I won't circle the Jewel parking lot a million times or wait in the horrendus lines. I do love Edgewater Produce on Clark, but it's not close. The closing of a grocer at the Foster & Sheridan location does leave a hole in the community, trust me, I can feel it!!!

  2. Actually, the Jewel at Montrose and Broadway has really improved. I am impressed.

  3. Ehhhh....the Jewel has improved, yes. But taking it from a 1 or a 2 on a 10 point scale to a 5 tops, still leaves much to the imagination. I think I'm just bitter because it is abundantly clear, customers are not worth improving for, the threat of competition is. Yes, yes, it's the American capitalist way, I know! Still bitter and can't wait for a new game in town to open, despite being a neighbor to this Jewel store.

  4. Partner and I like this Jewel. We've lived in the neighborhood (separately and together) for 13 years. Given the number of shopping trips and the paucity of problems, we don't know what's with all the haters. The service has almost always been good (everyone has a bad day once in a awhile and I suspect it's the haters projecting their bad attitude). They hire people with special needs (which we find laudable) who get a little extra slack. We even find it cute how one bagger doesn't particularly like Partner and mutters about it. When we had one recurring issue and Partner brought it to the store manager's attention we received a follow up call from corporate a week or so later.

  5. I'm not against OUR Jewel, but Jewel in general. It's fine in a pinch but the produce stinks and is expensive. I go all the way to Edgewater Produce almost every week. They have great prices and good quality. When I have a more extensive produce list with euro or exotic ingredients, I have to go to Marianos on Western or Treasure Island.
