Shots Fired On Argyle; Suspects Detained

We got a lot of reports of shots fired near Argyle and Kenmore around 4:50.  A reader of UU's Facebook page posted these photos and says:

"About 10 shots fired on Argyle at alley just west of Kenmore. Bullets [went] through La Patisserie P's windows. Nobody injured from the drive-by. [UU Note: See update below.]  Cops have 4 suspected gang members detained in front of Foremost Liquors. Suspects in silver 4 door newer Camry type car."

Good work to the cops for their quick actions, and we hope they have the shooters in custody.

Hope everyone inside La Patisserie P, one of our favorite places, is okay.

Update:  From the comments, the driver/shooters got away.  The people who were detained by the police were the intended victims.

Update:  Argyle is closed off and the police are gathering spent shells, very unusual in a case where no one was injured.

Update: From the Tribune -- "Two male victims, one 19 years old and one of an undetermined age, suffered graze wounds when they were shot near Argyle Street and Broadway about 4:45 p.m., said O’Brien. No condition reports were available, and no details were available as the investigation was ongoing."

  1. As the crime slowly moves away from Montrose/Wilson/Broadway it has definitley picked up and moved north to Argyle, to the point we stopped going there for dinner at night... too bad... Great places there

  3. Amazing what like 3 gang infested buildings and a crack house or two can do. Shame that crime has reached the level where people are afraid to go out to eat...pretty good sign things are about to get much worse.

  4. The 4 suspected gang members were detained and questioned but they seem to have been who the shooters in the car were aiming at. I was one of the first people on the scene right after the cops arrived- there was talk one person may have been injured slightly but I am not sure how true that was. But to be clear the shooters were not detained only the suspected gang members that were detained and questioned that seemed to be the targets.

  5. There have been a lot of shots fired in the 1 or 2 block radius of this in the last few weeks. Of course there is no word from the alderman's office.

We're done. We felt safe here when we were first married and moved here. Now that we have small children it's time for us to go. It shouldn't feel normal to do things like move your kids to the back of your home after dark.

  6. I walked by about 3 minutes after this happened. The police were still arriving, I got through before they blocked off the street.

  7. That area is Harry's ward but his office has never gotten back to me about anything...pretty sure he's having too much fun being Andersonville's alderman to be bothered (sound familiar friends just south). In fact, despite not being his ward, I see James in the area all the time.

  8. Maybe we should arm ourselves you know with legal stuff like baseball bats, steel rods etc. because this suspect could be lurking about us. We my find a better approach towards this, remember be careful, I myself must also be careful, gangs hate patriots...

  9. Maybe this was in retaliation for the shots at a person(s) on Wilson by the Starbucks early today late in the afternoon. You can see the window shot hole in he dry cleaners on the North Side of Wilson by Magnolia.

  10. Sad to hear this, I just moved away from Argyle and Winthrop right by where this occurred.

  11. It seems like we are going through another Alderman that only cares about Andersonville and Edgewater. He seems to be concerned with the happenings of store celebrations or CTA station openings and not much is said about the increase in shootings.

  12. Unless the bakery was able to get their window repaired within minutes, the shots did not go through the window. Two of the windows that are on the kitchen have a film on the inside that looks like cracked or shattered glass.

  13. It could also have been retaliation for the shots fired at Winthrop and Winona... From the school playground, no less.

  14. Maybe the should move the boundaries to include Cappleman's Uptown. Maybe Uptown boundaries should extend to Foster? Like I've written before, where are these knuckleheads living? They have to go pee and eat somewhere, find out where they live, contact the LL, get them out of the buildings.

  15. Unknown---have you signed up to receive regular updates from your alderman? Have you been reading Uptown Update? Are you aware that there is more communication coming out of both wards than ever before? Have you attended any of your local safety meetings? Yes, I'm pissed off about the increase in violence but get involved if you want to be part of the solution.

  16. Lianna, they pee and poop in the alleys. They also fornicate there. When I yell at them to move on, they just look at me and continue doing what they're doing, be it pooping, peeing, or fornicating. They have no respect for themselves or the neighborhood.

Also, I'd like to point out that I don't think there's been peep one from Osterman's office about this. What gives?

Primarily three buildings...two on Kenmore and Winthrop between Argyle and Winona and the Khan building. Most of their customer base lives in the crack houses just south of Argyle on Kenmore with a few more in The Habitat Company buildings scattered about.

THC has some half assed security guards and the joke of an agency Kates was hired by the slumloards on Kenmore and Winthrop to placate outrage a while back.

The landlords simply need to be bought out and buildings razed and or evicted. But as lawrence house demonstrates the process takes decades.

  18. @ Alek-

Harry Osterman identifies someone on his staff to notify about these buildings (from this week's update:

"Identify Problem Buildings – In most cases, those committing crimes either live in a building nearby, or have a friend/family member that does. Going after the buildings where criminals are housed will help get rid of them. Please report any buildings that perhaps house gang members or drug dealers to Jared Desecki on my staff. We will work with that building and police to confirm your reports, and make sure that the managers of these properties are doing what they can to evict."

If you know where these people live, please do contact the Alderman's office.
