Foster/Sheridan Dominick's To Open November 11

<
Someone in the know about the new Dominick's at Foster and Sheridan writes to say, "The opening day is planned for November 11, 2010. Management has been chosen for the store."

We're amazed that the old store was still open for business on October 23, 2009, and now there's a new flagship store almost ready to open its doors.

  1. It IS amazing that the tear-down and construction and re-opening is taking 12 1/2 months! Compare that to the THIRTY MONTHS (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that it's taking only a few blocks away to tear out an old parking lot and tennis courts, and to construct a taxpayer-funded parking deck for the use of part-time students who don't want to take CTA to their night classes! I suppose they've needed the extra year and a half to do their secret planning to cut down 60 healthy trees, figure out the most-expensive 120 "replacement" trees, and design their planters along Wilson. They're doing an extraordinarily-speedy job of pouring sidewalks, curbs, and gutters (NOT!!). I'm taking bets that they'll select the most expensive option of laying sod instead of seeding...and that they'll try to do it in February so they can do it again in August--after all, the neighborhood (e.g., the WY TIF District) is footing the bill....

  2. I hope they'll have some special promotions or discounts to any customer who can prove that s/he is a veteran, since opening day is on Veterans' Day.

  4. Local Lassie, I'm sure they'll have Grand Opening promotions and discounts for everyone, regardless of it being November 11.

  5. bear60640 you appear to know the TIF culture really well. Thanks for the detailed / comedian -style description. No wonder our city is so broke.

  6. bear60640. There is not many I agree views with that post here. You have put the writing on the wall and it could have not been better said. Maybe you should have considered running for Alderman.
