Check out this
graphic from the Tribune. Please be sure to take care of yourself, and watch out for anyone who might be sensitive to the heat: pets, the elderly, the ill, anyone without air conditioning. Make a call to 311 and request a well-being check if you have concerns.
The best advice during hot spells like this is to drink plenty of water (not soda, and stay away from caffeine); wear lightly colored and loosely fitting clothing; and stay out of the heat/direct sunlight.
ReplyDeleteHeat stroke and heat exhaustion are deadly serious.
early signs of exhaustion:
- nausea
- weakness/fatigue/dizziness
- headaches
- cramps/muscle aches
Get inside, get cool and drink water if you're experiencing any of those.
Untreated, those symptoms can lead to others (and lead to them, quickly):
- lack of perspiration (sweat)
- odd behavior: confusion, agitation
These are symptoms of heat stroke.
If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of heat stroke, get them to a cooler climate, replenish electolytes (gatorade) and call 911, asap.
Heat exhaustion can ruin your day.
Heat stroke can and probably will kill you.
Just a little friendly advice.
Stay safe folks.
- odd behavior: confusion, agitation
