Aftermath Of A Murder

  • Update: The man who was shot in the chest, Aaron Carter, has died. Read about it in the Sun-Times.

  • A helicopter hovered over the Lawrence/Broadway area for quite a while. Not sure if it was in response to the murder, but we're guessing it was.

  • Our friends with scanners tell us that the police are referring to this as a murder investigation, so while it's not officially confirmed, we're going to assume someone died. Update: The victim is in bad shape and in surgery and is still alive.

  • The gangs are always hungry for retribution and retaliation after a death, so be careful if you see groups gathering. Call 911 if you see anything suspicious.

  • The CAPS meeting for the beat where the murder occurred usually takes place on the first Tuesday of the month, but for August only, it will take place on the second Tuesday, August 10th. Beat 2311 covers Broadway to Clark, and Lawrence to Montrose. The meeting is August 10, 7pm, Truman College, Room 1907.

  1. Will the Alderman finally speak?

  2. ..Will she tell us that the crime was committed by people that live outside the ward?

  3. Will the Alderman finally speak?

    About what ...?

  4. Can someone post the contact info for the CBS reporter who covered the Alderman's failure to communicate last year? Maybe she can do a follow up story. I know violence happens in other areas, but I'd like to think those Alderman still put out statements rather than calling it a political attack

  7. Guys, this is only fisticuffs. Get over it.

these people need to be removed from the hood.

  8. Thanks BP...I say we all remind her about this ridiculousness

  9. Seems like Tribune is afraid to use the word "Uptown". Their current report identifies the location as Sheridan Park*. The shooting about 10 days ago on the corner of Irving and Broadway identified the location as Lakeview.

Odd. Someone should get them a map of the ward.

*Im aware Sheridan Park is a small part of Uptown.

  10. lots of gang members loitering at lawrence and sheridan this evening. must be plotting the revenge. i'll be staying inside.

  11. @oldmanuptown

Did you call 311 to report suspicious activity? Aren't we all about preventing this from happening instead of waiting until it does??

  12. old man uptown - i did too. i think we all should when we see these comments on uptown.

  13. I have consistently called 911 regarding the gangbangers at wilson and magnolia, but the police have NEVER came. When the bums drink and smoke weed/crack in front of my house, i've also called but they never come, so I turn on the sprinkler. There is the cop who walks around this area, but rarely is doing his job. He's more of a socialite, frequenting starbucks, the fire station and jimmy johns. I'm guessing he gets freebies from our local businesses? Chicago police are a joke.

  14. The police were doing a lot of investigating late last night in the alley behind 4452 Magnolia. They appeared to be looking for something on the ground.

  15. Oldman... I agree... LOTS of new gang activity on the Sheridan/Lawrence corner the past couple of weeks... I hope the police are keeping an eye on that, considering the history of a block down at Sheridan and Leland...

  16. I predict a packed August CAPS meeting, soon to be followed by a rally/gathering at Sunnyside Mall, outraged reactions and pontification from at least three of the four current aldermanic candidates, silence by Alderman Shiller, but a month from now...business as usual.

  17. Larry, I call the police about the Wilson/Magnolia corner, and generally get a pretty good reponse from the police. The police have to prioritize, and maybe when you call, there are other more pressing issues they are dealing with.

Don't blame the police, blame the idiots shooting each other.

  18. When Daley comes and supports Shiller he is also supporting Gang Violence. He is just as big of a problem as her.

  19. I'll tell you what, we can complain on here all you want but that's not going to do anything. We need organization and we need to go higher than Schiller, and it needs to be sustained political pressure on Schiller and up the chain. So who's got the time to organize and get this rolling? Or we can just sit back and let it continue. (P.S. While I still own my place in the hood, I moved out to get my kid in a safe environment).

  20. FYI a private citcizen CAN NOT sign complaints about loitering on some one elses private property. I've been to that grocery store @ Wilson and Magnolia many times to get them to sign complaints for loitering and they WILL NOT sign complaints. they want the $ from the gang bangers business. NONE of the stores will sign complaints for loitering so I sugguest that you boycott all of the stores in that mini mall!

  21. Expect more violence. I guarantee that the P stones know what gang (if not who) did the shooting. They will retaliate! So if you see the P stones start to group call 911. They are at war with the Vice Lords of Clarendon Park and the Black Gangster Diciples of Lawrence and Sheridan. The war is over Wilson Ave. drug market between Sheridan and Broadway. They all want control over that strip of Wilson.
If you see the P stones walk East of Broadway that means trouble. If you see the Vice Lords walk West of Sheridan that means trouble. If you see the Gangster Diciples walk South of Leland that means trouble. I know they all dress the same to confuse police and witnesses....but we know who they are...so if you see a group of gangbangers on Wilson between Sheridan and Broadway CALL 911 it's about to go down.

  22. Make sure you are registered to vote at the address you live at. If you moved from the suburbs CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS to your Uptown address. The violence will continue as long as Shiller is in office....she allowed all the section 8 into her (YOUR)community.
If you see a crime call 911. Some of the call takers will not ask for your name...SO TELL THEM YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER so the police can talk to you about what you saw.
The other day I was dirving down the 800 block of sunnyside when a person told me the gang bangers were dealing drugs. I said I know they are selling drugs. I need "reasonable suspcion" to stop him. So I asked him "what did you see" he went into a discriptive detail of what he saw.... a male black in his teens to early 20"s wearing a red t shirt, red hat with dread locks take money then pulled out a small package from his pants and gave it to the other person. I said "Thank You, you just gave me the reasonable suspicion I need to terry stop him and pat him down".
When an anonymous citizen call 911 and says that they are dealing drugs on Wilson and Sheridan, police DO NOT have reasonable suspicion to do a "Terry Stop". So we just drive by because the deal is over. Give a detailed description of what you saw to the 911 call taker so we have a legal reason to stop them. At the very least we can charge them with possession of a controlled substance. We CAN NOT charge them with the dealing with out you signing complaints for dealing and without your infomation in the witness portion of the case report.

  23. Sorry for ranting.... Don't feel sorrry for Aaron Carter. He is a P Sone THUG with a long rap sheet. Feel sorry for the 13 year old boy who was shot to death on the West side while riding his bike.

If you live by the sword you will die by yhe sword (or in this case a gun).If you are going to be a gangbanging thug you should expect to die like a gangbanging thug.

  24. Frustrated 50 thanks for the info on how to supply info to the 911 operators.

  25. Frustrated 50 do your best to keep yourself and your fellow officers safe. This community really loves and needs you and all of your hard working fellow officers.

Uptown residents should go to the Clearpath website, and fill out a compliment on officers Shields, Pettigru, and Hilbring. They are the beat officers for the 2311 beat. They are great guys they are responsive and very professional. Remember there are plenty of "concerned citizens" that file complaints against these guys. We should let the city know how much we appreciate what they do on a daily basis.

Compliments just as complaints go in their permanent file and can make a difference when complaint is lodged.

I just did it and it took about two minutes.

  27. I am one of the three that helped aaron carter after his fatal shot to the chest when nobody else was willing i feel sorry for him no matter what his past consisted of he was a human being and a mothers child. when your a mother some mothers instincts are to help and comfort that child and let that child know he is not alone no matter if its your child or someone elses child. i will never forget how that child looked at me when i looked at him and who are you to judge the life of someone else when your own hands can be dirty just because nobody knows your past doesnt give you the right to judge someone elses and we all have skeletons in our closets.

  28. Thank you Frustrated50! I find it very frustrating when there is so much crime out in the open and nothing is done about it. It is very helpful toknow what we need to do inorder to help you guys get the thugs off the streets or at least give some tickets! I call 911 frequently, but now realize I need to give more information inorder to make a difference. Thanks for everything you guys do! we really appreciate it and despretely need it in uptown!!

  30. All the white shirted gangsters are currently at the tree and spot where Aaron saw his demise. Cops should come with a paddy wagon now and pick them all up. Then maybe i would feel safe on this street.

    ReplyDelete
  31. A convoy of at least four squad cars and a wagon have been slowly making the rounds on Racine and Magnolia in the past half hour, I guess to make a statement?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I wonder if there are any best practices we can look for. Does anybody know of a Ward/Beat that has seen a crime streak and successfully repelled it? Ousting Alderman Shiller would seem like low hanging fruit but what else could we do? Can we call for her resignation? Pressure the Mayor? I work in Uptown and live in Edgewater so I'm not a resident here but I'm willing to help. Also, for those who are frustrated with all this discussion, a thought: dictatorships have been wounded and brought down by people getting together, talking, finding solutions and acting. I think we're on the right track! Keep it up!!

  33. Start a Twitter feed, guys. It's instantaneous and relatively anonymous. You can set the feed to send you a text message on your cell to alert you wi a specific @ call.

If we all report to this @ call wi what we see and where we see it, we can help each other stay out of the line of fire.

I can set this up if you want and report it to UU to advertise. Just say the word.

  34. Yeah thats not right to say dont feel sorry for him your out of line for that (50) when i did not have bus fare to get to school he woke up at 6:30 in the wee hours to drive me to school...did he had to do that no but he did we as people need to look at each other as people gods creation not color dumbasses

    ReplyDelete
  35. twinagain beganing, not really sure what you said there. Yes you are correct in that its not right to say "don't feel sorry for him", but I don't feel sorry for him because he was shot dead in the street(a direct result of being a gangbanger, and the fact is he was), but feel sorry for him because he made the wrong decisions and may have not had the proper guidance and parenting to assist him in making the right choices in his life.

Hate to break it to ya though, but 630 isnt the wee hours in the morning. I don't know what time bangers officially go on the clock, but I'm up at 515 every morning to be at my "legal" job at 8 in the morning.

But stay in school kiddo and don't surround yourself with the wrong people, if anything, I hope this extremely unfortunate incident makes you realize that.
