The Trevor Project Fundraiser At Wild Pug

A reader writes in:
"I am running the marathon this year for The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project operates the only accredited, nationwide, around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention helpline for LGBTQ youth. I am hoping that you would let everyone know about a fundraiser this Thursday night, September 17th from 7 PM to 10 PM at Wild Pug.

There's a suggested tax-deductible $10 donation at the door, which will provide attendees with a raffle ticket and a wristband good for unlimited $2 well drinks/domestic draft all night. I'm still working on raffle prizes, but so far have a Crew gift card, bottle of booze and gift certificate to The Old Oak Tap. Additional raffle tickets will be $1. For those not so interested in drinking, I'll also have a cupcake buffet. Everyone is welcome to join the party to help this worthy cause!"

  1. Good Luck! But what is LGBTQ? Not hip to the lingo.

Golly, I do love it when an effort is made to include everyone in a community...when an effort is made to acknowledge and celebrate the range of human experience that exists. Its the kind of open-mindedness and open-heartedness I thought I was going to feel more of in Uptown and sadly, do not. You go, LGBTQ community!

  3. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ). Questioning may seem odd, but this organization sees phone calls from youth ranging from ages 13-24. 21% of callers identify themselves as "questioning" since they're probably too young or haven't realized their sexual identity yet.

  4. Hum. Interesting. I thought it had something to do with gays and lesbians but the BTQ through me off.

The compassion from organizations like this are amazing. And I think a lot of transgendered youth may fall under the questioning group. Not being sure of your gender identity can be very confusing.
