  2. Hi. The links aren't working. I tried following them/pasting them in on both websites.

  3. Also, is anyone willing to create a really nice flyer for Uptown Update? I would be willing to carry around some, put some on car windshields & put them up in lobbies at my own expense. Or, we could produce a paper version of some recent posts to get people interested. We could hand it out at the el?

More residents need to be talking about the kind of stuff we discuss here. I know we have discussed this before. What do you think about flyers, UU?

  4. You've got to click on the title of the post to get the long URLs in a single window.

  5. Has there been any discussion of returning the mall to a street? The "malling" (mauling?) of streets is a proven urban planning failure and most were returned to streets long ago. Just a thought

  6. GWNA, Graceland Wilson Neighbors Association, is organizing a block club meeting. We apologize for not responding sooner.

GWNA boundaries are Montrose to Wilson, Broadway to Beacon.

We are working to make this happen soon. In the meantime, please visit the GWNA website at www.gwna.org. You can sign up and become a member, send comments.

  7. Too expensive to return it to a street.

  8. OK, I have a silly question because I've never encountered this before. My understanding is gathering starts at 1 PM, but there's roll call with CPD at 2 PM. What is 'roll call'?

  9. Somo Mike - I totally agree with you. This "mall" needs to be turned back into a street! I don't have a clue why everyone is so blind to this. And, I doubt it would cost a great deal of money to do it - the street is basically there minus the planters. Heck, you could even keep some of the plantings along the parkway. The mall is currently nothing but a "gathering" spot - and not in a good way.

If the "mall" was made to reduce car/gang traffic, then put in the medians in the intersections like they have in Edgewater.

  10. A roll call is when the shift starts, all of the officers get together to discuss whats going on in the area since their last shift and to also discuss things that they should focus on for that shift.

  11. Will Shiller be attending this event?

  12. what if we were to at least install a shooting range so that are gang bangers would be more accurate minimizing civilian casaulaties?

  13. Will Shiller be attending this event?

Has anyone given her a flyer or contacted her office about the meeting?

It's good to have mounting evidence that she does not participate in community activities when election time rolls around. Send the flyer by USPS with delivery confirmation.

  14. LOL. save your energy and don't bother even thinking of the alderman or inviting her. use your energy wisely people.
Also, turning sunnyside into an ugly street? give me a break. it's beautiful and great to have by us. we are lucky to have it. we need to clean it up, not make it a street.

  16. I beg to differ with anon 2:22. This street is poor urban planning at its finest. Why do you think you have people hanging out, shooting and dealing drugs here? Because its an inviting spot for it! I don't think it would be an ugly street either. Again, kudos to those who have put in the hard work and time to do the landscaping, but enough is enough. Open it back up! Enough with this dimly lit, oversized sidewalk that police can't even drive through to get to the other streets.

Do you see this type of closed off street working successfully in nearby neighborhoods?

The actual guy? He has been anonymous! Will he be wearing a mask? Or will he just drop off flyers at the bar?

Just curious, I fully respect right to privacy and such on these matters

  18. The police DO DRIVE on the sunnyside mall. WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE IT. Turning it into a street is not the answer. Let's try to come up with something more constructive than THAT! The end.

  19. We need to install these at the mall and on every corner. We could turn them on from dusk until dawn every night.
I will talk yo my condo association about this.

  20. Why are we lucky to have a place for gang members to hang out amongst the lovely landscaping? Yeah, lets keep making it nicer and nicer so gang members can shoot at each other in beautiful surroundings. Get real.

The "mall" concept is a 1970's urban failure.

  21. As a resident of Magnolia, it would be nice for it to be a street again, not just because of the gang activity, but it is a pain when someone is blocking an end of the alley to have to drive two blocks to get around it. Not to mention having to drive through the 4400 block between Magnolia and Malden where a lot of undesirables hang out (and where there has been gunfire in the past.

Regarding the block clubs, I agree that everyone should join, but also all the block clubs between Clark/Broadway and Montrose/Lawrence should band together under a Sheridan Park block club. The Buena Park block clubs did this and now they are a huge organization with quite a bit of influence.

  22. Better organized block clubs east of Broadway are needed as well. I know CPNA exists, but it does not have a website, newsletter, etc.(that I know of) to help keep residents of that area informed about upcoming events, safety issues, etc.

  23. You will always have problems with this "mall" until it is reopened as a street as it was meant to be - plain and simple. Not too hard to figure that out.

  24. CPNA has regular emails to keep everyone involved in the know. We get updated every month for our CAPS meetings, regular block club meetings, an annual block party. We're pretty well organized and from what I know the first block club to be working with the CPD to start a neighborhood watch. Training is this weekend.
