*This should be an interesting debate with respectful voices on both sides of the spectrum being heard. Learning about another person's perspective in a thoughtful way is definitely needed in these trying times.
With little or no SRO's in Uptown (like we had in the 60s thru the 90s) it stands to reason we now have so many living in the streets. "Homeless" are what used to be many SRO residents. No one can afford the higher gentrified and changed situations in Uptown nowadays.
SRO's have gone by the wayside. Uptown used to have many from the 50s into the 90s, but rents and gentrification have killed that era off. Many of the older apartments have been upscaled and changed to reflect new "ownership instead of old renters. Times have changed with many now on the streets.
Homeless people should not be allowed to put up tents in public spaces and litter those places. It is unsafe and not hygienic for them and unsightly for others. The city has a dozen vacant buildings on State Street where unhomed people could be re-established.
