1101 W. Argyle Rendering Reveal

1101 W. Argyle (Compass Architecture LLC)

We are likely getting a first look at what will soon rise on the SW corner of Argyle and Winthrop at 1101 W. Argyle and it will certainly be quite a change for the corner.

Building permits for the development mentioned a 6 story building with ground floor retail and garage parking for 8 cars. A rendering on the Compass Architecture website seems to check those boxes and will definitely bring density and 16 units of housing just steps from the Argyle red line station.

The site is currently being cleared for the new development that is being built "as of right" with no zoning change necessary, bypassing any potential community input or aldermanic feedback.

  1. This looks like an eyesore, but that's typical of the city's approach to the radical change that is clearly in the making, Uptown and Andersonville and other neighborhoods will eventually look like Lakeview with most of the historic buildings destroyed in the name of "density. No community input? That's Typical. Please not also that there will be 16 apartments and 8 paring spaces. The war on cars continues apace.

    1. I hear you on the sad state of historical building demo. Such a shame.

But the war on cars? This development's front door is literally steps away from the red line, with a multitude of buses nearby as well. Folks who live here are highly unlikely to own more than one car, if they own any at all.

  2. I haven't been over there in a while. Are the 2 SROs hotels still nearby?
