Man Shot, Killed In Front Of Truman College Tonight (Updated); Another Man Shot On Sunnyside Mall

Around 7pm, readers started reporting hearing 10-15 shots fired on Wilson. Turns out a 24-year-old man was hit by shots fired from a passing car at Wilson and Racine. His friends helped him to sit at the base of the Truman College sign while an ambulance came from the firehouse a block away. He was shot in the torso/side.

A reader says, "I'm listening to the police scanner, and the victim of the shooting is in critical condition at Illinois Masonic. Going into surgery now. No ID in his clothing, being treated as a John Doe."

Update: Scanner followers on Twitter soon reported that the man had died, with confirmation coming from the police around 10:15pm. The police information officers are reporting that the shooting took place on the 4600 block of Kenmore. We know this to be untrue. It was at 4600 Racine. Eyewitnesses saw and heard it happen at that location.

We have been asked not to release the name of the victim, but can confirm that he was a well-known P-Stone gang member.

Update: Another shooting took place shortly after 11pm, when a 15-year-old male was shot in the thigh on the Sunnyside Mall near Malden. He then ran to Clark and Wilson. Police were on the scene quickly. According to the Sun-Times, he was "taken to Thorek Memorial Hospital, police said. He was transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where his condition was stabilized."

Remember that this past weekend was the deadliest one in Chicago in three years and it looks like the idiot gangbangers want to carry the carnage forward another day. How pathetic their lives are, based around no respect for life, including their own, and higher loyalty to their petty gang vengeances than to their loved ones and families. Here's a clue, guys: Your family will always remember you and that you are gone. You are most probably leaving them in a financial bind as well. Your gang will forget you past the second anniversary of your death.

Thank you to everyone who has been calling 911. If the operators don't answer, it's because a lot of calls are coming in, from all over the city. Keep calling! When deciding how to place police resources, the first thing CPD does is check the number of calls for service.

This brings back memories of Halloween 2010, when five people were shot and one was killed. Should be a fun, carefree holiday for kids, and some idiots think it's time for retribution of a deadly kind.

  1. There were just about 5 shots fired on Malden right next to Sunnyside mall around 11:20 PM. I looked out my window and saw a group of kids runnings north on Malden away from the mall. Cops are now driving around here.

  2. How did these gangbangers get into the Uptown area? Where do they live? Why aren't landlords notified of their living in apartment buildings.
Seems the gangs are taking their fights to the north side.

    2. They LIVE in Uptown. Gangs have been here for quite some time and Uptown is the only Northeast neighborhood with significant gang activity. It's also the only one with a TON of subsidized housing. Coincidence? Nope.

If I wanted, I could even tell you what buildings they live in. The members, territories, hangouts, and headquarters are KNOWN and documented for the feuding gangs of Uptown. The CPD is too scared to do anything because of the race card and most of the political figures of the 46th Ward are self-righteous/delusional liberals.

    3. Uptown has always had gangs and it will not stop bbcause the whole city is out of control. Schools are still being closed down, children have rights, so they feel they can do whatever. Uptown is not the only North side area with gangs members. And those apartments that are subsidized has rules and anyone with a record can not live there, meaning parents, and children. If they were to go inside of the building, the whole family gets evicted.

    4. I am fed up with the "It's Always Been This Way" excuse fatimoh.

Ganbangers -OPENLY- live at Voice of the People properties with no fear on Malden and Racine.

      TIME TO ENFORCE THE RULES!!!!!

And why is this little jerk still running around the neighborhood when he -OPENLY- brandishes his weapon fatimoh?

No. It -DOES NOT- have to always be this way if we collectively quit pretending that these thugs...And those who harbor them in subsidized housing throughout Uptown are in no way shape form or fashion, "Victims" and demand that the existing rules be enforced to evict them.

And no. I don't care where they will move to...But there are some real nice subsidized facilities in Chester, Pontiac, and Crest Hill where these bangers can move to.

    5. First of all most of These People were born abd raised right in Uptown There are shootings in almost every neighborhood in Chicago..And if for one min u dont believe a human being belongs in their neighborhoods ur wrong the answer is not move people for some other people cause thats just gonna create more crime.. This kid lived on these streetz...Why should he have to be moved He wasnt a horrible person..If you dont like the crime you move out of the city cause to the suburbs.Personally knew this person...Never had any problems walking down these streets Dont like seeing any one get shot.....REST IN PEACE

    6. "He wasnt a horrible person..If you dont like the crime you move out of the city cause to the suburbs."

Seriously? That's your answer to this senseless violence? Criminal Gangbangers who commit felonies up to and including murder have rights too? And that they have the -"RIGHT"- to run roughshod over the law abiding citizens of Uptown?

If this guy didn't want to get shot, then he had zero business hanging out in a criminal environment.

      His choice. His consequences.

Listen justme, if you want to live in a slum where kids are lost to crime by the time they are in sixth grade, and you do not want to see that cycle broken, then feel free to move to Engleside.

Look in the mirror. YOU are the problem.

    7. And oh yeah justme...

This particular gangbanger was already out in the 'burbs committing crimes, so your very Racist solution of , "If you don't like the murderous slum we are content with Uptown to be, then move." won't work...

    8. The reason these CHA tenants are moved is because they are caught violating their family's leases. By residing illegally in their Mom's or baby mamma's or grandmother's tax payer subsidized apartments and by doing criminal activity in and from those units they violate their parent's lease terms and get their family members kicked out of the building. CHA seems to favor moving the lease holding family member, who hosts the gangs, into other CHA units that have on-site management, camera systems, and small square footage that will not support multiple tenants rather than kicking the leaseholder out of all CHA properties. The off-lease tenants are banned from all CHA properties. The problem in Uptown is that we have so many CHA scattered site townhouses with no on-site management in the building. There is no reason why CHA can't add cameras to the outside and inside hallways of these units so that they can monitor and document the location of the housing unit that is hosting the gang bangers. Harry Ostermann got CHA to do it in his ward. Inder the lease provisions, there is no reason why CHA can't ban the leaseholding family member just like they do their grown gang banger kids. They just don't like to do it. Some leaseholding family members knowingly and willingly benefit financially from their kid's gang activity. It seems like those persons should lose their right to lease CHA subsidized units so that fear would dissuade them from doing it. But, the enforcement policy to only move them to other buildings doesn't act as much of a disincentive.

And then there is the problem of Voice of the People. What CHA tosses out, VOP takes in. To them , money is money and they don't care from whom they take it and what their tenants do to the neighbors and Uptown.

  3. The legal system protects these thugs. The alderman's husband would go to court to make sure the thugs got theirs, but you need to be involved in your community to help. Go to the beat meetings and contact the alderman. He's very approachable.

    1. Want to be more specific? Uptown Peoples Law Center, the taxpayer funded charitable organization known for championing prisoner rights, criminal's rights, and police brutality suits, protects certain of these families and thugs in eviction suits. The threatened suits intimidate government agencies, low income housing providers and police into inactivity. Rather than act, the targets take the easy way out (for them) and just ignore the criminal housing problems in Uptown. It is not uncommon for local landlords to pay $20,000 or more to the bad-ass tenants to get them to leave leave rather than engage in threatened litigation with (taxpayer funded) activist law firms. Rather than call the payments extortion, they use the euphemism, "relocation bonus". Can you imagine paying gang bangers that kind of money to leave your property??? The activist firm are often funded by and/or affiliated with certain big name Chicago law firms and law school professors, who want to make a name for themselves doing pro-bono bleeding edge civil rights cases. (Remember Amy Crawford ??) They also get funded by the bar (law) associations using funds involuntarily collected from all lawyers, who pay it as part of their membership dues So, a committee of lefty's control the giving of the bar association members, while the dues-paying members have no vote in the matter and probably pay little attention to that, which they cannot control. I think it is time to hold those bar associations accountable for what they are funding. They are probably clueless as to what really goes on with their funding in communities like Uptown. I recall working with one law firm that was so proud of their funding of a children's agency in my neighborhood. Meanwhile, my neighbors granddaughter did an internship at that Uptown children's organization and the first thing they taught her was where and how to slap a child with an open hand to no leave any marks. Serious disconnect between the donors intent and Uptown's reality.

BTW, Marc Kaplan, one of the founders of Tent City has been a longtime employee of Uptown Peoples Law Center. Andy Thayer, one of the other founders of Tent City, is office manager of Loevy & Loevy, a civil rights activist firm that specializes in lawsuits against police. Uptown is their playground and their battleground for legal maneuvers and case development. And we get to be the "civilian casualties" and scorched earth.

    2. At the end of the day...

      Follow. The. Money.

Mills and Thayer camouflage their real motivation of fighting gentrification behind neo_Marxist garbage, when their real impetus is protecting and expanding the interests and portfolios of the Section 8 slumlords like Voice of the People.

Like I say, time for a RICO investigation.

  4. About a month ago I texted the cops as there were about 10 or so of these kids sitting in the exact spot of the shooting. There was an older "ring leader" type yelling at them. The response I got back was "are they doing anything illegal." I guess the cops really don't care to bust these guys. Now I have to live in fear everyday since I live across the street.

    1. Another five years ago when I lived in uptown. I was up working late and saw them taking roll call like the police. A older guy was shouting at about ten of them lined up. I called 911 twice and then did nothing. One accused me of being a racist. Amazing. I moved about two years ago to andersonville. Best thing I have ever done.

    2. I'm confused as to why you're upset about that response from police. Is it illegal for 10 or so kids to be together? They have to be doing something illegal for the cops to be involved.

    3. Robb,

You're part of the problem. Bleeding heart, self-righteous bull$h*t. In a safe/sane society, authority is allowed to inquire based on suspicion.

I would have ZERO problem with being stopped and frisked if I were coming off as suspicious or making anybody uncomfortable. Then, I would continue on as a law-abiding citizen...It's for the better of the city.

    4. Well they were loitering so technically the cops could have done something. I find it hard to believe 10 gang bangers in one spot are just playing Tic-Tac-Toe.

    5. When I was that age in the 90s, I used to hang out on the block with all of my friends all the time. Even just standing in front of stores talking, and being bored. Nobody called the cops on us though because we were white in a white neighborhood.

    6. Angry Chicagoan, your idea of a "safe/sane society" was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. If you're going to assign blame, look a little farther than your neighbors and local coppers. We get it, you're angry and frustrated. We are too. But what happened last night is not the fault of your law-abiding neighbors, who are as angry and frustrated as you are.

    7. I was under the impression that loitering under suspicion of gang activity was illegal in Chicago..

"In 1992, the city of Chicago adopted an anti-loitering law (Chicago Municipal Code 8-4-015 (1992)) aimed at restricting gang related activity, especially violent crime and drug trafficking.[3] The law, which defined loitering as "remain[ing] in any one place with no apparent purpose", gave police officers a right to disperse such persons and in case of disobedience, provided for a punishment by fine, imprisonment and/or community service. It was ruled unlawful by the Supreme Court of the United States (Chicago v. Morales, 527 U.S. 41 (1999)) as unacceptably vague and not giving citizens clear guidelines on what the acceptable conduct was. In 2000, the city adopted a revised version of the ordinance,[4] in an attempt to eliminate the unconstitutional elements. Loitering was then defined as 'remaining in any one place under circumstances that would warrant a reasonable person to believe that the purpose or effect of that behavior is to enable a criminal street gang to establish control over identifiable areas, to intimidate others from entering those areas, or to conceal illegal activities.' "

  5. Robb, are you kidding me. They were not doing their calculus homework. These were the same people that hung out on that corner selling drugs and shouting light's out when the cops came. The same corner that multiple people had been shot. I called 911 at least three times a day and nothing happened. If the cops came, they would walk away and five minutes later back to selling. I took pictures and gave them to the cops. The commander told me, if I was you I would move.

This is what they are doing Robb...Look "innocent" to you?

Recently departed -as in shot and killed last week ago on Racine- Tramell Williams dispensing Hoolie justice on Magnolia a year ago.

Or, how about this little gaggle of Hoolagang and PBG taking an "innocent" stroll from Sunnyside Mall to Chase Park this past June...with their weapons (I count more than 10) and drugs...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grOSIgZ8iuA

So, yeah Rob. You think that is all "innocent" then your willful blindness to the open criminality displayed by these thugs every day here in Uptown is indeed a part of the problem.

  7. Keep in mind Supt. McCathy had a great strategy. It was presented to Rahm and Alderman, who said "NO' He was part of the command staff in NYC when they had condition patrol and made it a pain in the ass for thugs. It had great results and dramatically reduced crime. McCarthy wanted to bring it to Chicago, but it was turned down.

Thank the Puppets and Mayor once again

    1. Yes, I agree. McCarthy was a scapegoat for Emanuel (and others) which ticks me off no-end. That man was doing us good, and I was so proud Chicago employed him. He was one of the sane voices and we're missing that now. Or, someone needs to inform me who to put my faith in now, when it comes to crimes of this kind.

  8. The days of putting guys hanging out in the area on the squad car and, name checking and searching them are over.the police can only stop someone that has just committed,is about to commit or is in the process of committing a crime. You can thank the dept of justice, the a.c.l.u.and,the bottom feeding lawyers looking to cash in on lawsuits on cops and the city. The police have to do a report called an i.s.r.that is a page and a half long documenting what i mentioned above.then that report is submitted to dept of justice and a.c.l.u attourneys that will go over it with a fine tooth comb. If the cops dont have the exact criteria for the stop they are subject to dept punishments and civil litigation.sorry folks but,no cop i know is going to put his job, pension, property at risk just to move some guys off a corner. Now,if you witness a crime or,have evidence of a crime and ,are willing to sign complaints and actually show up in court then something could be done.like i said, the cops are not trusted to use gut instinct and just grab someone and search them anymore.also, thank the judges who repeatedly release or,not sentence them in court. The cops are handcuffed now folks. Its the new liberal world.
