Anyone Want To Buy A Really Cool Book/Record Store?

A reminder that time marches on, and even a legendary Uptown store and its owner aren't immune.

Ric Addy, the owner of Shake Rattle & Read, posted today on the store's Facebook page:
"Jan.1st,1986 - 30 years ago - I got the keys to the 'Book Box' and changed the name of the shop to Shake Rattle & Read - after 50 years in my family and in the same location, it's a bittersweet anniversary as I prepare to retire and leave Chicago.

I am so grateful to everyone for their support and love - the act of actually going into a shop and buying something rather than just wanting something specific and ordering online off your phone or home computer...I get it - but it's time to let the physical store go for me.

I'll be having a big 50th Anniversary Sale & Party the 3rd weekend of January...the 15th thru the 18th.

After that, if I cannot find a buyer for the shop who will relocate it (the landlord says it cannot stay at this location), then I will have a series of 'Going Out Of Business' sales until the books and records are gone..probably by the end of May or June.

Happy New Year 2016 To All! I will be going out in style with some fun and crazy events - Stay Tuned!"
If you know anyone who can take over the store, please contact Ric ASAP. We'd so love to have it stay in the area. As much as we'll miss Ric, we wish him a happy and well-deserved retirement.
