Salad Bar, Deli, Bakery, And A Little Ragtime On The Side

So this week we checked out Mariano's on Western and Roscoe, to see what to expect sometime next month at Sheridan and Foster.  What we did NOT expect was a baby grand piano sitting next to the checkout stands.  Apparently there are live piano performances on the weekends.

Will similar things be happening at the Uptown/Edgewater Mariano's?  Won't be long until we know for sure.

  1. Oh, it's really nice to have them playing while you are in the short and friendly check out lines at this location. I highly anticipate the arrival of the new store to our neighborhood.

  3. There's a video online that gives you the flavor of Mariano's weekend entertainment.

As for Mariano's coming to the edge of the Edgewater/Uptown border I welcome them. It's been a hassle at the local Jewels with Dominicks being Kaput.

Plus from the way people talk about Mariano's it will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the neighborhood. People do love them some Mariano's.

  4. Ever since the Western & Roscoe Mariano's opened, I've pretty much stopped shopping at Jewel (with rare exceptions). It's such an upgrade over Jewel, and the prices are very reasonable, that I have been more than willing to drive there to shop. Since Mariano's arrived, Jewel has improved their customer service and pricing, but before then, Jewel's was barely a step above a post office. Needless to say, having two within a 1.5 miles of each other will be fantastic!

  5. Agreed, UR. I'm nearby Jewel and try very hard not to patronize the very poor customer-service, dump of a store. Can't wait until Mariano's opens and I can make the drive to a decent/well-maintained place. I too have seen their panic/overhaul with the impending competition, but too little, too late for my dollar, in my mind!

  6. Hopefully, they will take a hard stance with the vagrants that frequently lingered around the parking lot of Dominicks. (sheridan & foster) I never felt safe shopping there.

  7. americanlt, out of curiosity, do you feel safe ANYWHERE?!? You've got vagrants on the brain, and frankly, when I see your name crop up here (banging into the "vagrant" wall yet again), I now immediately visualize you as Prudy Pingleton in John Water's "Hairspray"...specifically, when she's chasing her daughter and has encounter with a friendly drunken "vagrant".

I think I'll just call you "Prudy" or "Mrs. Pingleton" from now on. It's fitting.
