Friends Of 46th Ward Schools Announces School Supply Drive

Although most of us are just getting into the swing of summer, it is time for us here at Friends of the 46th Ward Schools to start thinking about school supplies for the upcoming school year.  We will again be partnering with Alderman James Cappleman to collect school supplies for students and teachers in the CPS schools within the 46th Ward.

We’ve had a few changes in the ward over the past few months, as you have likely heard.  Stewart is closing.  Courtenay is moving into the Stockton building and will be merging with Stockton students.  And due to redistricting, McCutcheon is now within the boundaries of the 46th ward.  This year we’ll be collecting supplies for Brenneman, Disney, Greeley, McCutcheon, Courtenay/Stockton, and Uplift. 

As you may know, many of the students in 46th Ward schools come from underprivileged families.  According to statistics on the CPS website, 57 to 98 percent of the children attending schools in the 46th Ward come from low-income families (the rate varies by school).  This is a great opportunity for the community to come together and help these kids obtain necessary supplies and have a great start to their school year.  We are looking forward to collecting even more school supplies this year to distribute to the students and teachers in our ward, but we need your help to make it happen!

All supplies can be dropped off at Alderman Cappleman’s office at 4544 N. Broadway during regular business hours (Mon,Tue,Thu: 9am-5pm; Wed: 9am-7pm; Fri - Sat: 9am - Noon).  We hope to set up additional drop-off locations soon and we will keep you posted. 

Please see our website for lists of supplies needed (www.46thwardschools.weebly.com/school-supply-drive.html).  Pick up a little or a lot.  If you don’t have time to shop for school supplies, we are happy to accept gift cards from Staples or Target and do the shopping for you.  You can also donate with cash or a personal check or directly through the Paypal link on our website (www.46thwardschools.weebly.com).  If you would like to send us gift cards, cash, or a personal check, please e-mail us at friends46thwardschools@gmail.com for a mailing address.  We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and receipts can be provided upon request.

Please note that all donated school supplies will go directly to the schools for distribution.  Supplies will not be distributed by anyone at Alderman Cappleman’s office.  Families of students who attend 46th ward schools who need school supplies should inquire directly with their school.
