Extra-Alarm Fire At 915 W Wilson

Photo from WGN, which had
an earlier story about the fire
If you were awoken by a ton of fire sirens early this morning, here's why, from Chicago Breaking News:

A multi-alarm fire was called for an apartment building in the Uptown neighborhood on the North Side when a man used a lighter to look for something under a mattress and the mattress caught fire.  At 4:45 a.m., fire personnel responded to a fire at Wilson Windsor Apartments at 915 W. Wilson Ave, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Larry Langford.  Read the rest of the story here.

This is the Wilson Windsor Apartments, which were heavily rehabbed a couple years ago, across from Friendly Towers.  We're glad to hear everyone is okay.  Scary stuff.

  1. I this a SRO like Wilson Club? I often see vagrants lingering outside this building smoking, drinking (at 7AM) and swearing. Perhaps there was some building code violations?

  2. Well, when you Google the address, Jay Bomberg comes up with an office there. I seem to recall that he owns Wilson Club, too.

  3. They're apartments: Wilson Windsor Apartments.

There may be no smoking allowed inside, which is why tenants have to stand in front of the building to smoke, just like they do at clubs and bars all over Uptown.

    Doesn't make them vagrants.
