Make It THREE New Uptown Aldermen In 2011

Portrait by Phineas X. Jones, in the
"50 Aldermen/50 Artists" show
in Wicker Park last year
First we heard from Ald. Helen Shiller (46th) that she wouldn't be running for reelection.

Then Ald. Mary Ann Smith (48th) announced that she wouldn't, either.

Now Uptown is three-for-three in the City Council:  Ald. Gene Schulter (47th) just announced he, too, won't seek reelection.

Read all about it in the Trib's Clout Street.

UU Note:  Interestingly, the Trib mentions that one of Ald. Schulter's rivals for the tax appeals appointment he seeks is 46th Ward resident Sam Toia, long rumored to be Ald. Shiller's gentleman friend and business partner.

Update:  Read more about this story and the 47th Ward aldermanic race, as well as a statement from Ald. Schulter, at the Welles Park Bulldog.

  1. Thanks for the shout out UU! :)

Part of the back story is that Ald. Schulter hasn't included The Bulldog in any press releases or answered any of our questions or FOIAs (we have one currently before the AG) since we started.

We do not consider him a great communicator. As usual, today we had to play catchup. I think we did it well.
