Political Pride

We're getting all sorts of Uptown sightings from yesterday's Pride Parade. Some comments and photos from readers are posted below. Click to enlarge.

"I covered the Pride Parade from start to finish. I looked for Alderman Shiller, but she didn't show up.

Nowotny and Cappleman were there. I heard people shouting at Nowotny saying 'Clean our streets! Clean our streets!'"

"State Rep. Greg Harris was there." (and Sen. Heather Steans, too.)

And so was ... Jesse Wilson?

"Couple candidates were in parade yesterday (attached). No sign of Helen (unless I missed her)."

  1. A car and a handmade sign do not a proper candidate make.

Who is Jesse Wilson, and if he's tossed his hat into the ring, where's his website so that curious folk can learn more about him?

So ..., Shiller didn't show, huh?

    That's interesting.

  2. Movie Guy Voice...

    In A World so corrupt comes a man that plays by his own rules. {{Exposions}}. He's ruthless {{Bloody interrogation}}, passionate {{love making scene}}, and relentless {{lunging on to the top of the L}}. But this February will he be up for the biggest challenge of his life...Running for 46th Ward Aldermen! {{More Explosions!!}} And did we mention he is a single dad? {{5 kids crying in a mini van}}

THIS FEBUARY...Chip Douglas is Jesse Wilson...and he is running for Alderman..and he is going to KICK YOUR As...Butt!

*This message is not endorsed by Jesse Wilson, all characters including Chip Douglas are made up.

  4. Helen probably wanted to ride in some car with a few well-liked politicians to help curtail some of the booing that she gets. I bet they didn't want to be seen with her so she decided to be a no-show.

Interesting that Tom Tunney aligned himself in the parade with the very independent alderman Scott Waguespack. I wonder if some of the aldermen are starting to jump Daley's ship now that his popularity is down?

    Short version:

Any politician with skin in the 46th ward realizes that support for Helen is electoral kryptonite.

    Well, almost any politician.

We still need to hear from our beloved representative from the 9th Congressional district.

Y'know the one I'm talking about, right?

The one who got buckets of stimulus dollars to improve a shady-treed, high tax revenue section of Evanston while Uptown's infrastructure crumbles.

    Yeah. That one.

  6. Yo,
Rep. Schakowsky did throw stimulus $ our way. How could you forget the millions of stimulus that was poured into more low-income housing in Uptown.

Start looking at Joel Pollak as a replacement.

Don’t forget Schakowsky supported Wilson Yard.

  7. Oh. You're right, UL.

She did throw cash for affordable housing.

Apparently, the $50M+ Shiller threw at it wasn't enough.

  8. I didn't see Helen either- she's sure sending gays and lesbians a message about who she really is.

I thought that I saw Tunney's name as one of 3 on the large float (Harris, Steans and Tunney). Harris and Steans repudiated Helen pretty publicly last year by sponsoring Helen's Law and-to the extent sides are being chosen--Tunney's sharing a float with them would seem to signal his break with her as well.

On a wholly unrelated matter, although I can't see myself voting for him, I have to give Nowotny props on the absolute best Pride costume of any politician yesterday.

  9. The Illinois Family Institute had her in the list of those to participate in the parade and her website also made a mention of it. Not that usually I rely on information from those sources (gasp!!) but it suggested to me that perhaps she had planned to go and then didn't.

If the shootings at Wilson turn out to be some kind of hate crime thing and she also didn't go to Pride... well... then I don't know what to think.

I don't want to mix the two threads but I was wondering if any of the details of the shooting had gotten any clearer than the initial reports?

  10. PS, Chip. Your movie guy post made me laugh.

  11. Jesse Wilson sat on top of an old beater car barely waving at people. He didn't even have the guts to walk on his own two feet let alone shake a hand, kiss a baby, or tell anyone that he existed.

This man does not exist as far as anyone should be concerned.

@usually pc, that's the only props you can give Nowotny. Seriously.

  12. ok, so wilson's car wasn't exactly a beater, but let's forget about him for now.

let's take a look at the sign above nowotny's head in one of these photos. it's a sign advertising moving to Berwyn! Ah ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaa!

    Sh*t...If he's elected, I just might.

  13. Too bad Nowotny's ward doesn't look as good as his costume. What he doesn't seem to realize is that also around his neck is a lei of Shiller. Unfortunately for his campaign, that is not as fragrant or appealing as the Sandwich Islands* version.

Rightly or wrongly he's going to take the blame for every pothole and flaming** Cheetos bag that dances in the wind.

    * Hawaii

** The word "flaming" in no way means to signify anything to do with homosexuality. The IrishPirate loves his gay neighbors and speaking in da third person. He was also beaten by a large group of lesbians on Harleys last night on Montrose. The one day a year I don't have to pay for it.

PS Without an exchange of money it just seems wrong. Not as wrong as Nowotny claiming to be an independent, but you get the idea.

  14. ?

Who the **** is Jesse Wilson?

Is he racing Farinas for obscurity?

As for Shiller not showing dat's not surprising.

I am more and more convinced she ain't runnin'.

That saddens me. Nowotny is a poor substitute for my scorn. He is actually probably a decent guy. Not that I'll vote for his machine self anyway.

  15. Possibly her car was in the shop? No doubt something armored. How does she get from Andersonville to the war zone?

I'm anxiously awaiting comments about the Wilson/Broadway 'event' on Sunday on the 46th website.

  16. Just to add.....the 46th Website had a wonderfully helpful bit about 'fireworks' on the 4th.

    Let alone a proper candidate.
