Seen Outside Aldi

A reader sends us these pics showing the "display cases" at Aldi on Broadway now displaying a rendering of the development and an ambitious timeline for completion. Curiously enough, still no official "Target Coming Soon" sign at the site. We love how the low-income housing is referred to as simply an "apartment building."

  1. I'm wondering why Aldi would even bother to display these posters? Did Helen's office bring them over, and/or strongly encourage the display?

You're right.......'Apartments' and 'Senior Housing' seem like a blatant deflection of the truth.

    Interesting.....

  2. Besides the happy-happy-1984speak aspect of the wording... I love that the display cases are still trashed by the graffiti (and ineffective attempts to remove it) that appeared moments after the display cases were installed.

Come to think of it, the condition of the display cases are a lot more honest about Wilson Yard than the fakey-fake text within them.

  3. For the millions and millions of dollars being spent (wasted) on this project, these sure are some generic looking signs!

  5. It looks like Holsten paid for the signs. Money right out of his pocket.

  6. Ummm, not for nothing but, is that a front door for Target facing the street? I thought this whole project was about hiding entrances and parking lots so our friendly neighborhood gangbanging welcome wagon could more discretely "shop" for catalytic converters? So Aldi is the only one with a back-facing front door?

There are apartments going into the building. Why would the economic status of the renters be something that should be mentioned on the sign? There is no blatant deflection of the truth when we don't even know what the truth is yet. I feel like this is just complaining to complain.
