Dunkin' Donuts Coming To Broadway And Irving

From BPN: Our thanks to "IndyRob" and Michilla Blaise for information on the rehab at the corner of Broadway and Irving Park.

"The southeast corner of Irving Park and Broadway is zoned for no more than three story building with retail on the first floor. Dunkin Donuts has signed a lease for the first floor, but there will still be space for additional retail as well. There will be residential units on the top two floors."

We are surprised to hear that 2 floors are being added to this existing one story building. If anyone is comes across an updated rendering for the building, send it our way.

  2. are there any decent Dunkin Donuts in the neighborhood? 4th of July weekend I had friends in town, and one walked over to the DD at Montrose and Clark both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Both times the donuts were stale and awful.

I've never been in, but I assume they don't actually make the donuts on site. Are there any in Uptown that are the actual bakeries? Like the Krispy Kreme stores with the "hot" neon signs?

  3. Dunkin Donuts are made off site and delivered daily.

    I know my donuts.

  4. Do you know why the Pillsbury dough boy can't have kids????? Because he has donuts! Thanks. I'll be here all week.

  5. To Mr. Pirate: What, you mean those commercials with the guy getting out of bed before dawn groaning "time to make the donuts" was not true?

All the more reason to bemoan the lack of success of Krispy Kreme, which did indeed make the donuts fresh several times daily. Oh, if they could only open a store at Bway & Irving!

  6. Sarah - the one at Lawrence & Hermitage is pretty good. Of course I actually go there only for the Baskin Robbins ice cream, especially the soft-serve.

  7. Brad,

Just so you know, I laughed out loud. Stupid, I know.

Not sure a DD is the best use for the property but it's another business going in. At least they will make them rehab the building (or so one would assume. And yes, I know what happens when you assume, especially in this neighborhood.)

  8. Sarah,
There is a new Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins on Broadway just south of Foster Ave. on the west side of the street. It's clean and both the donuts & ice cream are fresh & great. It's where the old Burger King was, though I'm not sure if that's still Uptown.

  10. I will never walk further south to Starbucks again. I love that DD coffee. If I want something more flavorful, I'd rather just have some real Italian espresso instead of that Starbucks burnt crap.

  11. I second Edward2nd's comment. The DD at Broadway and Winona is good.

It is in Uptown -- Uptown's northern border is Foster, and DD is just south of that.

Come to support Uptown businesses, stay for the donuts!

  13. Actually Uptown has the best donut shop in the county :
    Superior Donuts - Uptown

  14. Yay, another crappy national chain hawking overpriced, fat-laden food. Can't we get more affordable, healthy options around here, or do we not deserve anything more than fried chicken and crullers?

  15. Since we are on the subject of Donuts, the play Superior Donuts at the Steppenwolf is wonderful. Go see it.

  18. It's funny because I spoke to a worker at this building today about the progress and how it is going, they don't see this project being done anytime soon. The are currently ripping out the basement if anyone is curious. After that they will be moving to rip out the roof according to this guy.

  19. This is the old dry-cleaners establishment, right? Yes, it probably will take some time before being finally approved as a food-service business. Goodness knows what kind of "toxic waste" from the prior activity is still lurking around in the structure.

  20. one wonders what bank is giving out loans for construction these days! shocking! there's dunkin donuts at clark and belmont (not uptown) and the one at rt. 43 and foster is good.

there's no room for parking or a drive through at the rt. 19 and broadway location, is there?

  21. If you want a good cup of coffee and great atmosphere, go to "The Fix" on the northeast corner of Clarendon and Irving Park.

  22. BTW one of the marks of a true-blue Chicagoan is that the donut shop at Clark & Belmont is known as the "Punkin' Donuts" due to its proximity to "alternative merchandise" stores (including places like that Smoke Shop on Bway), and the youngish crowd that frequently populates the space after-hours.
Other clues: we call the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center the "Audy Home" and the nearby campus of the University of Illinois "Circle."

  23. Although this store helps Uptown, it is not in Uptown. This building is located in Lake View.
