Uptown From Space

Seems when there's nothing else to do in outer space, the astronauts grab their cameras and take photos of earth through a window in the the International Space Station. NASA has put examples of astronaut photography on the web, including Uptown. (click the image for a larger version)

The little dark blotch slightly to the left of Montrose Harbor? That's Graceland Cemetery, where the residents don't need lights at night. The larger blotch north and west of Graceland is Rosehill Cemetery.

  2. It's cool how you can see Chicago's street grid pattern so clearly. Thanks, Daniel Burnham!

  3. Wait a second. How come I can't see a Target Superstore in Wilson Yard from outer space?

  4. I'm surprised that there isn't a big orange cone over all of Uptown that is visible from space.
