Let Your Voice Be Heard

Please take a moment (seriously, it takes maybe 2 seconds) and voice your opinion against a tax hike that would give Cook County the highest sales tax in the country (10.25%). Votes are cast via an automated phone system, here are the instructions:

CALL 1-312 -603-6400.

Press option 1, then option 2, and then VOTE AGAINST INCREASE (OPTION 2)

  1. When I pressed 2 to oppose the sales tax, I got disconnected (three times).

Now, when I went to option 3 (telephone tax) and opposed it, I was thanked for taking the time ... blah.

Anyone else getting hung up on?

(I was half-thinking to support the sales tax increase, to see if I got a different response, but sure as he** didn't want to do that).

  2. Way to get feedback! I got hung up on when I pressed 2. Now that's democracy.

  6. Yeah - I dialed back and it appears they got it fixed.

Maybe I dialed in too early, or something. I mean, this is Stroger's office, after all. I'm kinda' surprised option 1 wasn't to talk to the cow. Option 2 to talk to Mr. Pig. Option 3 to speak with the goat, and so on.

  7. It worked fine for me. The gun control question is option 1; the tax increase is option 2. You may have pushed the button prematurely...

Everyone reading this, please participate. After all, none of us actually got to vote for or against Todd Stroger.

  8. I was able to provide my feedback (#2) and then I got disconnected.

You need to listen to the prompts. The first prompt is to provide feedback on county issues (press 1) and then the tax hike is the second county issue mentioned (press 2).

  9. It's disgusting that this is being done. It places the burden further on the backs of the middle and lower income people. We should be taxing by income, not by sales tax or any of these other silly taxes.

  10. I just voted...worked for me too...should we vote the Chicago way and vote often too?

I also voted on the Gun proposal and the phone tax increase too...

I didn't even know about those!!!!

    I LOVE CHICAGO :P

  11. I don't get this. What's the point? This has already been voted on and passed.

  12. Phone tax proposal ($4/per phone line per month, including cell phones) was killed off last year.

Sales tax increase, thanks to Commissioner Larry Suffredin's last minute betrayal was approved on March 1st. I am 99% sure Uptown's Commissioner Mike Quigley voted against the increase.

County portion of local sales tax will increase from .75% to 1.75% and will help kick the overall local sales tax to 10.25% in Chicago. That's the nation's highest sales tax. We're #1!!!

So I think you guys are all just making non-binding telephone voicemail votes against a done deal.

  14. Squiggley and Sufferingdin appeared together on a Chicago TV talk show after the tax increase was passed. They were best buds as suffering Larry explained why he had to do what he did and Squiggley purred in the background saying he understood the position poor Larry was placed in.

    Poor Larry. Poorer Taxpayers.

  16. The phone poll has been shut down - presumably because of all of the negative call volume.

  18. "After all, none of us actually got to vote for or against Todd Stroger."

Yes, we did. There was a Republican candidate.

  19. I'm sooooo happy Obama endorsed Stroger.

    Thanks, Barry.

  20. There is no option 2. Only an option 1.
