I love the passive voice: "He'd just been released..." I'll ask the unaskable: "Who released him?" Lawyers (who, by the way, include Judges) who release people like him do so with impunity. Wouldn't it be wonderful if lawyers were provided with a little motivation to make the right decisions? I would suggest that lawyers who release violent criminals who subsequently commit violent crimes have their licenses revoked, but I don't want to "offend" the poor, victimized readers--so I won't suggest it.

I would love to stand up for these court trials, but unfortunately I work in the West Loop during the times when they occur. Would it be helpful to create a Google Group or other email group for people who are available to go the trials? It would be great for people who work near the court and can attend during the day, or people with flexible schedules, or people who are currently unemployed. That way they could communicate with each other and ensure that at least a handful of people go.
