Mother Of Newborn Baby Thrown From High-Rise Window Gets Probation

In a very surprising development, Mubashra Uddin, the mother of a newborn girl who was thrown from a high-rise window in November 2015, was sentenced to four years probation this month by Judge Carol Howard.

The baby was found on the ground outside of 850 West Eastwood with severe injuries. She passed away at Weiss Hospital, just a block away.

Ms. Uddin pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter of a family member. All other charges against her were dropped.  You can read more about this development at CWB Chicago and in the Tribune.

We can't stress enough that Illinois has a Safe Haven Law, where newborns up to 30 days old can be turned in to hospitals, police stations, or fire stations, no questions asked. As long as the baby is uninjured, the parents can walk away, knowing their baby will be in safe hands.

  1. This is the same judge that greatly reduced the sentence of an area woman who left her young child unattended and consequently died.

  5. Just spitballin' here. What if the judge listened to all the evidence in the case over the past few years, and determined that the young woman was not the person who threw the baby out the window? There were at least three other people in the apartment, two of whom were reportedly adamantly against this baby being born. But this isn't Perry Mason, where a judge can sentence someone who's not on trial in front of her. Plus, the young woman pleaded guilty. Does a probation sentence make sense in that scenario?

    1. I'm on board with where you're going with this. I cannot believe for a second her parents didn't know she was pregnant. This whole thing just doesn't pass the sniff test.
Does anyone know the case number or even have a link to read the court case? I would really like to know more details on this case.

  6. Apparently, the same judge who sentenced this woman to probation just released a SERIAL RAPIST on bond with electronic monitoring. This is the 3rd time this guy's DNA has matched a rape kit, and the second time he has been released with electronic monitoring. Call me crazy, but should this judge even be employed???

  7. Who is the judge? Is he up for re-election? Maybe if enough people protested to the Board that oversees judges, he will be reprimanded. I can't believe Timothy Evans isn't on top of this judge.
