Walking Tours Next Week Explore Uptown

Chicago for Chicagoans is sponsoring walking tours of Uptown on four days beginning this Saturday. The two and a half hour tours will begin at the Lawrence Red Line station and will "explore the history, landmarks, and architecture of a neighborhood that's got a story for everyone-- in addition to the tales of secret tunnels, early motion pictures, and legendary jazz musicians, you'll learn about "Hillbilly Harlem," John Dillinger, and the changing face of the neighborhood today. The afternoon will end at Miss Saigon (1129 W Argyle), one of the most delicious spots in the area for Vietnamese Pho."

The tours will take place:
  • Saturday, April 22, 1pm-3:30pm
  • Sunday, April 23, 1pm-3:30pm
  • Thursday, April 27, 6:30pm-9pm
  • Saturday, April 29, 1pm-3:30pm
You can register and find out more information here.  "Please note: Chicago for Chicagoans happily exists as a "pay-what-you-can" tour service. A suggested tip of $10-20 per person is always appreciated, but reviewing us on Yelp, liking us on Facebook, spreading the word, and attending future tours tells us how much you love us too!"

  1. Is there a cap on how many people can attend? If registration is full is there room for "walk ins" ? :)

  2. Here are some links to the documentary "Uptown: Portrait of a Palace". Includes the video itself. I saw it at the Portage Theater back in 2006 and it's a good watch.
