Construction/Closures Update

Here's what's up with the area under construction for the Wilson L:
  • Wilson will be closed to vehicular traffic (but open to pedestrian traffic) between 9am and 4pm Monday and Tuesday. This is a closure for the CTA work to continue. Phase II -- taking down and replacing the old metal tracks that date back to 1907 -- is now fully underway, and is scheduled to take six months, much shorter than the replacement and demolition of the old concrete tracks that ran parallel to the metal ones.
  • The City's Department of Water Management completed its months-long project on the 4600 block of Broadway at the end of March, replacing century-old sewers and pipes under the street. Leland at Broadway was actually open for a day (photographic proof above).
  • Now it's ComEd's turn to do its thing. Leland and Broadway is once again blocked off, and the northbound lanes on the 4600 block of Broadway remain closed. We don't know how long it will take ComEd to complete its work, but we'll let you know as soon as we find out more.
  • On a positive note, CTA finished its overnight work early last week, so the southbound lanes on Broadway were open Friday, a day sooner than predicted.
As always, remember that the locally owned businesses along Broadway and Wilson especially need your support at this time. Please remember to patronize them and help them stay afloat during this long construction period. A list of the shops and addresses is here.
