Oh-La-La! Uptowner Opens French Pastry Shop

In the mood for luscious French pastries, made daily and by hand?  You're in luck. Southern France Patisserie has just opened at Irving Park and Southport, and although it's a couple blocks outside of Uptown, both the storefront and the very delicious baked goods contained within it are the creations of Uptowner Amanda Tommey Terbush.

With extensive restaurant and chocolatier experience behind her, Amanda opened Southern France last year as an online business, with the brick-and-mortar version just opened on June 19th.  For now, it has limited hours: Friday through Sunday, 8am - 4pm, so plan your weekends accordingly! As the shop's popularity grows, Amanda hopes to expand from a one-woman operation to hiring help and expanding the bakery's hours.

On Saturday morning, when we visited, everything looked tempting.  We settled on a lavender/lemon tart and some macarons.  If it weren't for diets and budgets, we would have gladly bought everything on display.  It was all mouth-watering.

Southern France is located at 1405 West Irving Park, next to Floyd's Barber Shop, a couple doors west of Southport.  The website is www.southernfrancechicago.com.  The Tribune did a nice story about her grand opening, which can be seen here.

  1. Went there yesterday and had a nice chat with the owner Amanda about her new business and her plans for the future. She eventually plans to bring in a few tables and offer sandwiches come this Fall. Can't wait!

BTW, the croissant I ordered was delicious.
