Weiss Farmers Market Opens Today at 7AM

It's the second Thursday for Weiss Hospital's farmer's market, open 7am to 1pm throughout the summer.  There were six or seven vendors when we were there last week, and while there wasn't a lot of fresh produce (yet, due to the cool spring), we did go home with some treasures.
  • Radtke Farms, from Berrien Springs, Michigan, had an amazing array of homemade jams and jellies.  Raspberry/Jalapeno, anyone?  Triple Berry? Rhubarb?  They've got them all.
  • A lady selling vintage and costume jewelry at very reasonable prices.  We'll definitely be back for more.  Unusual and artistic earrings, necklaces, and pendants.
  • Yvolina's Tamales, from Pilsen, which features vegan and vegetarian selections as well as the usual carnivore stuff.  We didn't buy anything from the stand, only because the line was so long.  Again, we'll be back.  It looked and smelled delicious.
  • Beijo de Chocolat, the chocolate and pastry shop located in North Park, was there. They'd sold out of chocolate by the time we got there, but we came home with some shortbread cookies that made up for it.  They've been voted one of the best chocolatiers in the country for the past five years, according to their website.
  • Lotus Farms Chicago, organic homemade health and beauty items, as well as anything organic that the proprietress enjoys.  Bath salts, exfoliating creams, goat milk soaps, and more. You can get a good idea of what she sells at her Facebook page.
There were a couple more vendors, but we were out of money and time (and craving those shortbread cookies), so we didn't have a chance to see what else was offered.  According to DNAinfo, there will be more booths and vendors joining the market each week.  The people at the Radtke Farms booth told us that Michigan cherries should be ready in a couple of weeks.

Vendors get there at 7 or 8am, so if you leave a little early for work, you'll have time to browse.  The market is held in the Weiss Hospital parking lot at Clarendon and Wilson.

For those who prefer an evening setting, the Argyle Night Market will start up again on July 9th and vendors will be there between 5pm and 9pm.

    1. Not yet. They did say the Michigan cherry crop is just starting to ripen, so expect them in two weeks or so.
