Uptown Arts Center Presents "Close-up of Japan in Chicago"


Five Japanese artists will exhibit more than 40 of their pieces at the Uptown Arts Center between June 5 and June 10.  Come to an opening reception on Friday, June 5th, and enjoy a free calligraphy demonstration, as well as refreshments.

The award-winning visiting artists whose work is on display are from Hokkaido, Japan; they are Masanori Umeda, Natsuki Kubo, Akemi Kai, Daisaku Ueno, and Shinichi Yura.  Their art is in various media: painting, ceramics, Japanese calligraphy, ceramic doll art, books and 3-dimensional work.

The exhibit hours are:
  • Friday, June 5, 5-8pm: Opening Reception
  • Saturday & Sunday June 6-7, 2-5pm:  Gallery open, meet the artists!
  • Wednesday, June 10, 5-7pm  Closing reception
  • Also gallery hours by appointment: 773-450-7246
The Uptown Arts Center is located in the historic Preston Bradley Center at 941 West Lawrence, on the 4th floor.
