48th Ward Major Drug & Gang Bust

From Ald. Osterman,

"News From the 48th Ward: Public Safety Update‏--

On Friday, February 6, Chicago Police Department's Bureau of Organized Crime, Gang Investigation Division and the Chicago FBI Joint Task Force on Gangs Conduct Drug Conspiracy conducted a raid in the Uptown neighborhood code named Operation Tangled Web. This operation focused on a complex drug trafficking organization that’s been part of Chicago’s gang groups. This investigation included court ordered wiretaps and targeted north side Black P-Stones’ leaders which operated a 2.5 million drug trafficking organization with ties to multiple districts as well as Evanston and Skokie. Click here to read the full press release from CPD.

The operation resulted in 21 arrests with a multitude of charges that carry sentences upwards of 30 years. I want to thank the Chicago Police Department, Cook County State's Attorney's Office, FBI and Evanston Police department on successfully accomplishing this roundup. These arrests included a number of individuals involved in illegal activity in the Uptown community, specifically the Argyle and Lawrence areas.

If you are interested in following these cases through court advocacy, please contact Marko Zaric in my office for information on how to get involved. This operation was made possible in part by various 911 citizen calls. This once again points to the necessity to call 911 to report what you see. Information gathered from residents helps investigations such as this one and can help eliminate criminal activity. The Chicago Police Department created the TXT2TIP program so that you can anonymously and safely report information to the Chicago Police Department via a text message from your cellular phone. We will be scheduling our annual Block-by-Block safety meetings for next month. The Block-by-Block safety meetings are intended for residents to come out and have a conversation with me and neighbors about community-building actions and safety issues. I encourage everyone to attend these meetings to stay informed and share information on a block-by-block level. If you have any questions or comments, you can email Harry@48thward.org or call (773) 784-5277."

Finally getting the FBI involved and going after these gangbangers under the organized crime laws. Good work!
