Ribfest in Photos

Photographer Rick Lobes was at Windy City Ribfest this weekend, and took some great photos. Some of them are here (click to enlarge), but why not take a look at the whole set, here?

  1. Nothing says privileged white people are taking over your neighborhood more than walking outside and being blasted in the face with Dave Matthews Band and Jimmy Buffet covers. I would rather watch a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor than to go through that frat boy music line up again.

    1. Nothing says insipid stupid commentary more than some variation of the phrase "privileged white people". Have you been reading Uptown Uprising? Ryne over there seems to like variations of that theme and phrase. Which is surprising in that I imagine it's such privileged white people who provide most of his income. There's a joke there regarding the word "income", but this is a "g" rated blog so I won't make it.

Now you didn't like the music at Ribfest. Seems to me you have two choices regarding that. Close your windows or don't attend. Voila. Problem solved. Since the fest seems to be growing every year I imagine the organizers are not going to take your criticism to heart.

Perhaps you would prefer something like Tom Waits singing "Shenandoah"?

Or perhaps some sea shanties. Go to YOUTUBE and do some searches and stay away from insipid commentary.

By the way since you're clearly not very bright you're likely not familiar with one historic usage of the word "butternut". During the Civil War, or as I prefer it THE WAR AGAINST TRAITORS(TWAT), "butternuts" were Northerners and what we would now call Midwesterners who favored the Confederate cause. In other words you're a TWAT in some minor historically allusive way. Here's one definition:

As a derogatory insult, a pejorative meaning a fool, a stronger alternative to the word twit – 'He can be a complete twat' (often used in the UK).

"Copperhead" would be a similar word in historical usage.

That ends my history and linguistics lesson. Go in peace and make inane comments elsewhere.

    2. Thanks, IP!! I was going to comment that it was strangely hilarious to read a post ranting about "privileged white people" in a neighborhood that at times seems to be all about diversity--except some people aren't for diversity when it includes Caucasians that aren't on the public dole--and that post comes from someone who takes the name of a Confederate soldier nickname. Yup, they need to know about history, or else look stupid. Wait--too late for that, isn't it?
