  1. let's see, an unlicensed Mexican band concert promoted on facebook by an illegal promoter wirh no liability insurance and zero crowd control or security, full of gang members with, lets say "west side accents" drinking and trashing the park (since they dont live here, they don't give a fuck) turns into an all-out riot as rocks and bottles are thrown at the CPD cops on bikes responding to a 911 call and some 'banger pulls a gun.

It spins wildly out of control and requires cops from as far away as OHare (15 miles west) and Evanston (10 miles north, near Northwestern U) a couple of hours, a police helicopter to break it up.

  2. I just wonder how many of these people are from the suburbs. It seems a lot more people are coming up to Chicago from the suburbs to party and get into trouble. It seems there is not much to do the burbs such as Aurora and other suburbs etc.

    1. Spend some time in Wrigleyville. Its all young guys and gals from the burbs causing trouble and getting drunk. I have friends from the burbs who say that the thing to do is to go to Wrigleyville and party because there is nothing to do in the burbs.

  3. I hope they pay back the Citizens of Chicago for their rant, i.e.: Police officials salaries, gas money for the cars, helicopter expenses, etc. What does that add up to for this unauthorized event? A few million $$??

  4. The police did a really good job of breaking up the crown and controlling. Good job!!!

  5. I personally believe they should've called their parents and made them responsible. Let them pay for the damages and clean up the mess their children caused. Maybe they'd be more responsible if they were held accountable!

  6. “Look at Oak Street Beach. Do you see this many parking spots there? Look at Lincoln Park. There just aren't this many parking spots in such a concentrated area in other parts of the city,” Cappleman said. “I want the Park District and the police department to come up with a plan to discourage that many people from driving down there and parking.”

Charge for parking!! I've been saying that for years. Too many people drive down there.

  7. Restricting access to the park is a bummer in so many ways. Of course there needs to be some kind of traffic management to help with crowds coming in and out, but making it harder to park would change so much. All those cook outs, birthday parties, reunions -- wouldn't be possible. Taking a bus (or two) with a grill, coolers and lawn chairs isn't going to happen. And it's cost prohibitive.
I know the days of my parents and grandparents are gone when they would sleep at the lakefront on hot summer nights, but the rest of the north side shouldn't suffer because the city can't figure out how to manage crowds and traffic.

  9. I know I am a little late to the comment party, but with all the controlled parking and charging of parking won't matter if they can still park in the neighborhood. Permit parking and meter parking on Montrose is what is needed also. Also I am all for green space, but a few more pay lots would be helpful also.
