A Strong Message, And A Big Discount, From Papa Ray's Pizza

As some of UU's readers are aware, there's been a task force meeting since last year to address the chronic, longstanding crime issues at Weiss Plaza (Lawrence & Sheridan).  Through the cooperation of the police commanders, the State's Attorney's office, the 46th Ward aldermanic office, CAPS, block clubs, the management of the plaza, and most importantly, the individual store owners, crime in and around the strip mall has dropped sharply.

Because of the success of the measures taken at Weiss Plaza, business owners in nearby areas are beginning to follow the "Weiss Plaza model" in cooperation with the above entities to lower criminal activity in front of their own stores.

Papa Ray's Pizza & Wings, located kitty-corner from Weiss Plaza, sent this note to Uptown Update to explain what they are doing to help create safety in Uptown, and to offer a big incentive for UU readers:
"Just wanted to let you know that we are continuing to support and strive for a safer, gang-free, drug-free corner of Lawrence Ave. and Sheridan Rd. as well as the whole Uptown neighborhood. We will continue to do whatever we can including supporting the Alderman and police in their efforts.

We have recently joined the ban of all gang members and drug dealers with criminal records from entering our restaurant.  If they do, we will pursue criminal charges to the fullest extent of the law.

Furthermore, to show our support to you and your readers for helping make Uptown a better place to live and work, we would like to offer a 20% discount on any order (not valid with other offers, discounts or lunch specials) in which the customer says "Uptown Update."

That's it, all they have to say is "Uptown Update" and they will get our BIGGEST discount we currently have to offer. No tricks or jumping through hoops, just our way of saying thanks for continuing to support us and this very beautiful community we have here.  This offer is good through April 30th.

Together we can make a difference."
There you have it.  If you'd like to support a business that is proactively working to create a safer community, here's one stepping up.  We all know of local businesses that don't seem to care about the neighborhood.  Here's one that does, and is offering a big discount on top of it all.

Papa Ray's website is here.  The address is 4757 N Sheridan and the phone number is 773-754-0394.

  2. The guys at Papa Ray's are top notch! I have noticed a world of difference at this corner and hope it continues through the warm days ahead.

I'm glad to see this local shop gain success and expanding. I recently was able to visit their new location in Carol Stream when visiting family. I experienced the same great service and quality pizza and wings!

I hope everyone checks these guys out and support a business thriving to improve the safety of our neighborhood.

  5. That is awesome. I'm really happy to hear that they're active in making our neighborhood so safe (especially when I'm just a few doors down).

The people at Papa Ray's are really nice people. I stop in every once in a while, since they're just down the block from my house. You can't beat the price for such a huge slice, and their wings are really good too!

Now if the powers that be can institute something like this on the northeast corner of Wilson and Broadway...
