Cool Relief In Hot Weather, 1926 Style

A magazine ad from 1926, the year after the Uptown Theater opened, from the company that provided the air conditioning for it and 13 (13!) other grand Chicago theaters.  "You KNOW your theater will be cool during the hottest weather when you install Brunswick-Kroeschell equipment!"

If you look at the photo, you can see the Uptown with its three original marquees, none of which are still on the building.  You can also see the full regalia of decorations on the top facade, which have now been removed for safekeeping.  And if you look very closely, you can see the building to the left of it where Shake Rattle & Read now calls home.

Bonus:  Does the Diversey Theater exterior look familiar?  It's now the Century Mall at Clark and Diversey.
