Person Shot Near Kenmore & Carmen; Gun, Suspect Recovered

A nice night in north Uptown, until six shots were fired in the alley behind 5041 North Kenmore around 7:14pm.  (That's roughly at Carmen, in the alley between Kenmore and Sheridan.)  One person, reportedly a 33-year-old man, was shot in the leg.

Emergency medical personnel were on the scene by 7:16.

At 7:19, officials report that a foot chase was in progress, with the police in pursuit of a suspect in the shooting.  The subject was seen running northbound from Berwyn and Sheridan.

Finally, at 7:32, police reported that the suspect was in their custody, and a weapon was recovered.

Nice work by the police.

Ald. Osterman has been concentrating on the Winthrop/Kenmore corridor in his ward (north of Argyle) for months now, holding meetings, walking the blocks with neighbors to hear about problem areas,  and implementing safety measures.  We are sure he'll have something to say about this in the next day or so.

  1. I was walking home on Argyle with friends when we heard the shots and the police were there what seemed like less than a minute. Surprised to hear the shots, but so glad the police were there so quickly.

  2. Coming home from a Friday night out, I saw a guy laid out (alive) on the sidewalk with the police, onlookers, and police tape around the scene on the southeast corner of Leland and Broadway Saturday morning around 1 a.m. or so. Was there any news as to what that was about?
