Updates On Last Night's Gang Shooting

From Ald. Cappleman's latest newsletter (which has a lot of information in it):
"Shooting Last Night at Wilson/Magnolia. Last night, at around 6:30 p.m., a man was shot in the leg by a shooter driving by. The victim is a well-known gang member that has committed many gang-related crimes.

After this incident, I was at the CAPS meeting for this beat at Truman College to create solutions around these persistent gang issues. I am also working with the mayor's office and building managers to force the few people that are creating most of the violent crimes in our ward out of their homes.

As always, please report any suspicious activity (including suspected drug sales) to 9-1-1 and please attend your CAPS meeting so that the police can continue to target areas where suspicious activity is taking place."
And someone who was at the CAPS meeting put in the comments to a post on the shooting:
"The Police also mentioned that they were able to get all of Uptown labeled as a gang conflict zone and are able to do more widespread gang loitering dispersals than they ever have been."

  1. Clearly, the main problem with law enforcement in Chicago is that we have well known gang members who have committed many gang-related crimes walking around free on our streets...

  2. It is not as easy as one may think to rid the streets of these individuals.

How much of a sentence will a low level drug dealer receive for possession with intent to sell (if it isn't pled down)? Even with multiple previous arrests it'll be just few years, at most.

I can see why CPD focuses its limited resources on higher level offenders.

  3. Something happened tonight near Truman college. I just biked past and there is a swarm of cop cars and an ambulance (8:10pm). Today is June 7th 2013.
