"Asia On Argyle"

The new "Asia on Argyle" signs in front of the CTA viaduct are being installed today. Following the Argyle CTA station renovation, this should make the street more welcoming to residents and visitors, and it seems like they'll be ready in time for the Lunar New Year festivities on February 16th.

The only thing we don't like about the renovation is the acid green color of the pagoda roof.  Colors not found in nature, nor, we bet, in Asia during the age of Buddha.

  1. hideously ugly...and they should concentrate on the increasing violence and drug dealing on Argyle before making any further awful aesthetic changes.

  2. I somewhat disagree, part of crime fighting IS improving the ascetics of a neighborhood to attract a better class of people. Granted, yes, I think the green is horribly ugly - but it is doing it's job in stirring up neighborhood buzz. Brilliant marketing strategy in my opinion.

  3. Is this considered Uptown? That street is very dangerous. There is that liquor store & the North Mirror across the street. It's basically a SRO for "graduates" of the REST shelter program.

  4. I'd hardly call Argyle "very dangerous". Yes, there are some isolated incidents, but there are far, far worse areas of Uptown (and yes, anything south of Foster is considered Uptown).

  5. When I first saw that color on the pagoda weeks ago... I was shocked, but said nothing. I'm glad someone finally said it.

  6. Saw it installed yesterday and it is by far one of the most obtrusive and aesthetically unpleasing additions to the neighborhood I've ever seen. How on earth does this make the are more "inviting?"
