Shooting at Wilson and Sheridan

Just before 6pm, there were six shots fired at Wilson and Sheridan.  Police were on the scene quickly and we hear that at least one suspect was picked up running away on Kenmore.  At least one victim:  shot in the shoulder and a graze wound on the wrist.  In addition to the police, there are ambulances and assorted other first responders on the scene.

How we loathe these gangbangers and the chaos they bring to our community.  They contribute nothing except mayhem.

If you have any more information, please post it in the comments.

Update from a reader: "An 18 year "man" received a grazing wound to the shoulder, and to the hand. He was being combative with the first responders, and uncooperative with the CPD. He has been transported to the hospital.

Official address of the incident is 4605 N Sheridan.

Possible suspects, 4 "men", 2 with braids, were walking west on Wilson towards the L.  Looking suspicious. Reports of male, 5'4", wearing black baseball cap running out of Aster Playlot, on his phone, saying "I'm on Kenmore, come pick me up."

Reports that bullets from landed in Aster Playlot."

Update:  Police are doing gang dispersals in light of the gang shooting.  If you see a group forming, please call 911.

Update:  2:25AM Saturday -- the other shoe drops. God forbid that one senseless shooting goes unanswered by another senseless shooting.  Between our Facebook page and mailbox, it seems half of Uptown was awakened by 10 to 20 gunshots.  Apparently they happened around Clarendon and Eastwood, near the parking structure.  No word yet on any injuries.

God, how miserable to be a gangbanger, where revenge and gang loyalty trump common sense and self-preservation.  We hate them and everything they stand for.

Update: Read the Tribune's coverage here.

  1. can anyone explain why the POD isnt working!!!

This is the second shooting that the cops have asked for help. Isnt this the reason to have them up?

  4. @Un-bias I feel it is a reasonable question to ask, why they arent operational.

the police should have all the tools!!!

Granted they now have the ET on the scene, who is viewing the video, but if this was working all the info, they have now, might have helped!!!

  5. At 5:51 investigating officer was informed that the CDP POD CAM was not operational. This is the same camera that an investigating officer last week was told that he could not get footage for his investigation, he had to submit paperwork to get the footage. So the story this week is that the same Pod cam is not operational?

  6. @chambo- when I walked passed Wilson and Sheridan the camera is right where the incident took place, so by ALL MEANS they have AMPLE video to ARREST who did this. Why? Like I said in the beginning, there is a big, big police camera RIGHT there. NO EXCEPTION.

  7. @Chambo...
police cannot be on every street corner 24/7...give me a break. Call the gang banger's parents. Maybe they'd have an answer to your idiotic comment.

  8. Someone definitely, definitely needs to be fired for that camera not being functional.

  9. Oh, so now what everyone seems to be saying Is that the city puts cameras in troubled areas to shut everyone up right? I wonder if Mr. Cappleman is aware of this also? It's all bullshit so people can shut their mouths.. THAT'S why those ET's, detectives and others were standing around looking real discussted. Sooooo what's next the alderman is going to send e- mails explaining WHY the cameras are not in workIng order? Sorry to shoot off my mouth but it's way bigger than me. Everyone on this dam blog knows it too as quiet as its kept. Since the city is so dam broke and THIS mayor is taxing this and cutting that forget about it and get rid of the alderman too. I'm tired of them spoon feeding me B.S.

  10. Unbias, chill out. There was video. The police reviewed it and put out a description of the shooter. The tape showed the entire incident.

  11. Sorry Trishy in uptown... They have a JOB to do they get PAYED to WORK. Don't you know this?? Just like I get payed to do my job and if I don't perform it right? Guess what? I'm FIRED. So you can rant and rave about gangbangers, parents, and who ever else you want, the fact still remains the police were hired to work and do a job. God forbid of you were raped or robbed wouldn't you want the police to do their job? I mean would you try to contact the rapists parents or are you going to depend on the police to do their job.. And NO I'm not saying ALL police are bad. I've met quite a few good men and women of the law. I also have a family member who was a homicide commander in one of the most VIOLENT areas of the city. So, no, not all police are bad or lazy. Just do your jobs starting with those POD's.

  12. @ caring... Yea mabie I will cause everything's going to remain the same. This is a good place to blow off steam. At least we're heard either way. Next election I'm voting for UPTOWN UPDATE!!!!!

  13. @trish maybe go back and read my comments. I never complained about the police. I was saying they deserve to have all their tools.

At caring, if they had video right away, they might have made arrest ASAP. Now they will have to get an arrest warrant

  14. Saw two guys getting arrested outside Truman at about 8:15pm. I wonder if this is related. There was one unmarked car and one regular cruiser came by after a few minutes and picked up one of the guys.

  15. @ un-bias,

No, we're not heard either way. The filter by the team UU administrators is pretty tight.

  16. This guys have no shame and no respect so they deserve to learn their lesson in jail they almost killing inocent working with people with family! My sister who is a employee from a nearby store was also grazed by a bullet luckily on her thigh thank god she's ok but could've got killed while at work now u can't even work in peace because some idiots want to kill each other and hurting others while they r at it. The police recovered the weapon and now officially have the shooter on picture so they know now who did it the other victim which was gang related is having surgery now all this is crazy and needs to stop we don't need any more victims!

  17. An argument that is as old as the hills......GUN CONTROL. (this wouldn't happen every week in a city like London).
I usually find comfort in the cold winters....but obviously the weather doesn't affect the behavior of these sociopaths.

    ReplyDelete
  18. If the Police has a picture of the shooter, I want to see it and everyone else should see it as well.. We should all have our eyes open, Right?

  19. Starck Mad: That's sarcasm, right? Chicago and Illinois have some of the strongest gun control laws in the country. Many cities with less gun control have less crime.

The problem is the people who commit the crime (people as in individuals, not any one group, other than gang bangers). They'd be using knives, ball bats, chains, etc. if they didn't have guns.

Regarding London, the UK is more violent than the US. See http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1196941/The-violent-country-Europe-Britain-worse-South-Africa-U-S.html

  20. I wonder about the percentage of people posting on UU about this incident will actually end up going to the next CAPS meeting? I wonder if they actually know when and where their next CAPS meeting is?

CAPS would be the perfect place to ask about the cameras.

  21. Here's some fun information to warm everyone's hearts:

From what I've seen/heard/etc, the shootings early this morning may be a result of a turf war.

Seems some fine representatives from the latin gangs are sniffing about looking to expand their influence.

Specifically, those who use the "Area 51" tag.

    Have a wonderful day.

  22. I thought the cold winter would reduce this gun stuff. Uptown seems to be getting as bad as it was in the '80s. I now see the police questioning many "urban youths" in the area.

    ReplyDelete
  23. i thought they picked up someone in this shooting? Trib says nobody in custody

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sam45man, I don't buy it, sorry.....the Daily Mail piece doesn't mention the 'tools' (or lack of) used in the UK crimes.

Given what just happened the other night? There aren't too many 'Drive By Knifings" or 'Drive By Bat Killings' as far as I can recall.......anything we can do to prevent sociopaths from getting guns is a must.
It's not 1776, and there aren't many saber tooth tigers running amok to warrant having a pistol in the house.

  25. @starck_mad The reason gun control laws do nothing to curtail the use of guns in crimes is that the people committing the crimes obtain their guns outside of the law. Gun control laws only prevent those who observe the laws in the first place from purchasing guns.

London has lots more gang violence than us, and much stricter gun laws than most of the US (not including Chicago). They have a lot of mob beatings and stabbings, and believe it or not, gun crime. Good people don't have guns, and bad people find a way to get them.

Texas has some of the laxest gun laws in the country, and also some of the lowest gun violence rates.

What it comes down to is that the legality of guns does little to influence the use of guns in crimes. It's all socioeconomic influences. Family structure, generational poverty, subsidized housing density, and lack of community involvement.
