New Mexican Restaurant On Broadway

A reader writes:

"We have a new addition in the everchanging dining scene of Uptown.   My boyfriend and I were walking home from Target this evening and noticed Tolotzin Mexican Restaurant.  Located at 4431 N. Broadway, it seems to have just popped up.  I don't remember seeing construction or any other grumblings about a new place coming to our hood.   We decided to stop in as we have frequented Mr. Salsa, El Palmar, and Fiesta Mexicana numerous times, and wanted to give this place a go.   It was empty inside (the place was about to close)...but the decor was really nice and all of the tables were neatly set.   The food was spectacular.  Better than all three aforementioned places ... and that's saying something.   The portions were more than generous, the price was forgiving, and the food was extremely authentic.

I'm glad that a place like this has appeared so close to me.  I have to be honest, I feel like we stumbled upon some hidden secret that we're not supposed to tell anyone about!  Alas, that does not matter b/c I hope that you can get the word out for people to come and enjoy and support this amazing new addition.  Just in case, our server last night said they were open from 11-11 everyday, but the sign on the door says 10am-midnight.  So I'm sure they need time to work out any "new-restaurant-kinks".  Also, they are cash only at the moment.

PS:  The flan...get the flan.   He gave TWO to us for coming in, and we both finished it.  By far, the best I've ever had.  No joke."

  4. I'm heading here tonight. If they come close to being as good as the Garcia's @ Lawrence and Western, I'll be a happy man. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Hope the salsa rocks!

  5. La Cuidad on Sheridan just north of Leland is my favorite Mexican restaurant. Food is excellent and BYOB a plus.

  6. I google mapped the address and the building looks better with the awning it covers up the glass brick. Nice to have something new to check out on that stretch of road.

  7. Molbop, if you enlarge the photo, you can see the phone number on the awning. It says Carryout, Dine-In, and Delivery. 773-334-4300. Bon apetit!

  10. Stopped by for a take out order on my way back and I'm very impressed. It's a very large space and they have it beautifully decorated, seems like a nice place for a date or a dinner with friends.

My girlfriend and I got the steak burritos which tasted very fresh and were crisp (rather than the soggy messes you sometimes get at other places). Plus they were nice enough to throw in an order of chips/salsa for free.

I talked with the owners who were really nice and are glad to be contributing to the area.

Please UU'ers, if you want new businesses to stay on Broadway get out there and support them!

Also a note, they're currently cash only so come prepared. Thank you UU!

  11. This place is so good! We went last night and I highly recommend it. The couple working there was very nice and gave us a free order of flan (and we agree with the original posters that it's the best flan we've ever had)! The horchata tasted just like the way it tastes in Mexico! Please support this business, it's beautifully decorated and nice to see along that stretch of road!
