Shop Local and "Family Fest" This Weekend

Wednesday, June 25, 2008 | |

The latest email from Business Partners reminds us that this Saturday, June 28th, there's a lot brewing in Uptown:

The Shop Around is a neighborhood wide sidewalk sale. Local businesses will set up shop in front of their stores and offer specials and sales from 10am to 7pm.

The Family Fest is a free event in the parking lot at Lawrence & Winthrop (kitty-corner from the Aragon Ballroom) from 11am to 3pm. It will feature a petting zoo, jumping jacks, local arts and crafts vendors, performances, demonstrations, a safety fair and more!

In addition to the many businesses participating in the Shop Around (click on the link, it really is quite astonishing), Unique So Chique tells us:

"Along with the Uptown ShopAround, we are doing an outdoor sidewalk sale with TONS of product that we are drastically needing to move. The discount will be anywhere from 50%-75%. CASH ONLY!!"

So spend an hour or two in the community this Saturday, taking advantage of some of the good things we've got.

I know its hard to schedule summer festivals/activities without conflicting with something already planned in Chicago, but its too bad that this conflicts with the huge Pridefest street fair (food, concerts on 2 stages, activities, arts & crafts, etc.) on Saturday sponsored by North Halsted Merchant's Association (same organization that brings us Market Days annually in August).

What is Uptown Update's presence at these events? You guys should be there. It only has to be one person with small flyers with a URL printed on them.

UU will be there in the same fashion as they are present at everything else: in spirit.

    I dig UU's anonymity.

I look forward to purchasing my summer socks from the gentleman that sells them out of his grocery cart at Wilson and Broadway. I wonder if he will be having a sale?....
