Anyone know what is planned for this building? Or the building at Broway and Leland?

    Mark-
We have been told that a full "Bank of America" branch will take up the ground floor and offices on the second floor. All subject to change, of course.

I was worried when they removed the "modern" facade and saw the condition of the old facade below, but they are doing a great job restoring this. I'm excited to see this corner transformed--even if it is just another boring bank branch on a prime corner location.

We are noticing that the brick on this building above the street level windows does not match the rest of the brick. We wonder if some sort of awning is being added to the building and will cover this brick anyway. Any ideas?

There is a good photo of this building, at the Jewel at Broadway and Montrose, taken in the late 1950s, before the glass facade was put in place. You can clearly see all of the original terra cotta that was destroyed when they covered the building.

When the glass facade was removed, I was horrified wondering what they were going to do to the building. But, I am delighted to see that they are coming as close as possible in replacing the terra cotta design. It's a thrill to see this building as it has progressed.

This is a small, but nice victory for building preservation and for Uptown. Yeah!
